Abstract

What is described are herbicidal compositions comprising herbicidal compounds of the formula I and a compound which acts as safener. In the formula I, the symbols R 1 to R 4 denote hydrogen, halogen, alkyl and haloalkyl.

Claims (57)

1. A herbicidal composition, comprising

A) a herbicidally effective amount of one or more compounds of the formula (I), or stereoisomers or agriculturally useful salts therefof,

where

R 1 is methyl or ethyl;

R 2 is trifluoromethyl, fluorine, chlorine or bromine;

R 3 is hydrogen or methyl;

R 4 is methyl or ethyl;

R 5 is hydrogen, methylsulfonyl, ethylsulfonyl, n-propylsulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, 4-methylphenylsulfonyl, benzyl, benzoylmethyl, nitrobenzoylmethyl or 4-fluorobenzoylmethyl and

n is 0, 1, or 2, and

B) an antidote-effective amount of at least one safener compound from group to B5:

B5 acylsulfamoylbenzamides of the formula (IV), or stereoisomers or agriculturally useful salts therefof,

where

X is CH or N;

R 9 is hydrogen, (C 1 -C 6 )-alkyl, (C 3 -C 6 )-cycloalkyl, (C 2 -C 6 )-alkenyl, (C 2 -C 6 )-alkynyl, where the four last mentioned radicals are unsubstituted or substituted by one or more identical or different substituents from the group consisting of halogen, (C 1 -C 6 )-alkoxy, (C 1 -C 6 )-haloalkoxy, (C 1 -C 2 )-alkylsulfinyl, (C 1 -C 2 )-alkylsulfonyl, (C 3 -C 6 )-cycloalkyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkoxycarbonyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkylcarbonyl and, in the case of cyclic radicals, also (C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl and (C 1 -C 4 )-haloalkyl;

R 10 is hydrogen, (C 1 -C 6 )-alkyl, (C 2 -C 6 )-alkenyl, (C 2 -C 6 )-alkynyl, where the three last mentioned radicals are unsubstituted or substituted by one or more identical or different substituents from the group consisting of halogen, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkoxy and (C 1 -C 4 )-alkylthio, or

R 9 and R 10 together with the nitrogen atom carrying them form a pyrrolidinyl or piperidinyl radical;

R 11 is hydrogen, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl, (C 2 -C 4 )-alkenyl or (C 1 -C 4 )-alkynyl;

R 12 are identical or different and are halogen, nitro, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-haloalkyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-haloalkoxy, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkoxy, cyano, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkylthio, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkylsulfinyl, (C 1 -C 4 )-alkylsulfonyl,

m is 0, 1 or 2.

2. A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 1 , where

R 1 is methyl;

R 2 is trifluoromethyl;

R 3 is hydrogen or methyl;

R 4 is methyl or ethyl;

R 5 is hydrogen and

n is 2.

3. A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio herbicide:safener is from 1:100 to 100:1.

4. A method for controlling harmful plants in crops of useful plants, which comprises applying a herbicidally effective amount of a herbicide/safener combination as claimed in claim 1 onto the harmful plants, plants, plant seeds or the area on which the plants grow.

5. A method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the plants originate from the group consisting of corn, wheat, rye, barley, oats, rice, sorghum, cotton, sugar cane and soya.

6. A method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the plants are genetically modified.

7. A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 1 , where

R 1 is methyl;

R 2 is trifluoromethyl;

R 3 is methyl;

R 4 is methyl;

R 5 is hydrogen; and

n is 2.

8. A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 1 , where in the compound of formula IV,

X is CH;

R 9 is cyclopropyl;

R 10 is hydrogen;

R 11 is hydrogen;

R 12 is methoxy; and

m is 1.

9. A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein

R 1 is methyl;

R 2 is trifluoromethyl;

R 3 is methyl;

R 4 is methyl;

R 5 is hydrogen;

n is 2;
