Powered bone screw device
View Patent ↗A medical screwdriver for inserting a medical screw connected to a suture into a bone. The screwdriver includes a shaft adapted to hold a medical screw at its distal end, a motor adapted to rotate the shaft, and a suture-receiving channel leading from the distal end of the shaft to a point distanced from the distal end of the shaft by at least 50% of the length of the shaft.
1. A medical tool for driving a bone screw, comprising:
a medical screwdriver having a shaft;
a stationary sheath placed about the shaft of the medical screwdriver;
a collapsible shield connected at a distal end of the stationary sheath, wherein said collapsible shield includes an upper and a lower portion, wherein each of said upper and lower portions have a distal arm flexibly connected to a proximal arm, and wherein said collapsible shield has an open flex state that entirely covers a screw at a distal end of the shaft of the medical screwdriver wherein said distal arm is distant from said proximal arm, and a closed flex state in which said collapsible shield collapses onto a vertical line defined by the head of said screw and wherein said distal arm is immediately proximate said proximal arm in a vertical orientation for each of said upper and lower portions of said collapsible shield; and
a rotation stopper which prevents the sheath from rotating.
2. A medical tool according to claim 1 , wherein the rotation stopper comprises a key protruding from a proximal end of the sheath, which key is adapted to fit into a compatible groove of said screwdriver.
3. A medical tool according to claim 1 , wherein the sheath is at least two centimeters long.
