Abstract

A wireless communication link is established between a mobile station and a landline station, independently of the landline and wireless telecommunications networks. The mobile station, while engaged in a call via a wireless telecommunications network, may wirelessly transmit a bridging signal to a transceiver, in order to include the landline station in the call independently of the landline telecommunications network. While the landline station is engaged in a call via the landline telecommunications network, the transceiver may wirelessly transmit a bridging signal to the mobile station, in order to include the mobile station in the call independently of the wireless telecommunications network.

Claims (12)

1. A cordless base unit for facilitating wireless communication between a mobile station and a landline station, said mobile station being able to send and receive calls via a wireless telecommunications network, said landline station being able to send and receive calls via a landline telecommunications network, said cordless base unit comprising:

an antenna;

a wireless transmitter communicatively coupled to said antenna;

a wireless receiver communicatively coupled to said antenna;

a telephone line interface communicatively coupled to said landline telecommunications network;

a multiplexer, for selectively interconnecting said wireless transmitter, said wireless receiver, and said telephone line interface;

a controller, for controlling said multiplexer; and

a user interface, coupled to said controller, wherein said cordless base unit provides a first communication pathway for communicatively coupling said landline station to said landline telecommunications network, said cordless base unit provides a second communication pathway for communicatively coupling said mobile station with said landline station, via a wireless communication link, independently of said landline telecommunications network, and said cordless base unit wirelessly transmits a bridging signal to said mobile station independently of said wireless telecommunications network, in response to a predetermined instruction from a source selected from the group consisting of said user interface and said landline station.

2. The cordless base unit of claim 1 , wherein said cordless base unit uses a first wireless channel for communicating with said mobile station and a second wireless channel for communicating with said landline station.

3. The cordless base unit of claim 1 , wherein said cordless base unit communicates with said mobile station over an air interface and communicates with said landline station over a wired connection.

4. The cordless base unit of claim 1 , wherein said landline station is a cordless handset.

5. The cordless base unit of claim 1 , wherein said landline station is integrated with said cordless base unit.
