Method for retarding or precluding Alzheimer's dementia
View Patent ↗A method for treating a condition related to the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is disclosed. The method involves the removal of circulating autoantibodies of a biochemical marker or markers, specifically human glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), from the sera of a patient in an amount effective to reduce or eliminate phagocytosis of astrocytic cells. The invention further includes a process of immune system modulation effective for autoantibody removal.
1. A process for retarding phagocytosis of astrocytic cells comprising:
determining the presence in body fluid of autoantibodies against glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP); and
removing said autoantibodies from said body fluid whereby said removing retards phagocytosis of astrocytic cells.
