Abstract

The invention, in one embodiment, is directed to various aspects of the use of one or more wires in conjunction with an adhesive strip to serve as an electrically conductive connector between the photoactive layers of a photovoltaic cell or module.

Claims (41)

1. A photovoltaic module comprising:

a first base material including a substrate having a first conductive layer;

a photosensitized interconnected nanoparticle layer and a charge carrier material disposed on the first conductive layer;

a wire; and

a second base material including a substrate having a second conductive layer, the second base material being joined to the first base material such that the first and second conductive layers are in electrical contact with the wire,

wherein the photosensitized interconnected nanoparticle layer comprises nanoparticles linked by a polymeric linking agent to form conducting bridges between the nanoparticles, the conducting bridges having electrical properties that facilitate the transfer of electrons between the interconnected nanoparticles.

2. The photovoltaic module of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second base materials is scored.

3. The photovoltaic module of claim 1 , wherein the photosensitized interconnected nanoparticle material comprises particles with an average size in the range of about 5 mm to about 80 mm.
