Abstract

Toys and balls are disclosed having a skin and a core of somewhat dissimilar materials. The skin and core are of different colors. When the toy is squeezed, the non-liquid deformable core presses against at least a portion of the skin, making the skin thin at that point and permitting the color of the core to show through, creating the appearance of a color change of the toy.

Claims (77)

1. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,

a deformable non-liquid ball core of a second color,

said first color and said second color being visibly different colors, said ball skin being colored to the point of near-opacity,

said ball skin and said ball core having sufficient different physical properties so that they have a different feel from each other when squeezed by a human hand,

said ball skin being stretchable to a point of translucence when the ball is squeezed and ball core is forced against ball skin by the squeezing action,

and when said ball skin is stretched to a point of translucence, color of the ball in the area of said stretched skin experiences a changed based on increased dominance of said second color; wherein said ball core is made from the same general type of material as said ball skin, and said ball core material is discrete chunks of said material.

2. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,

a deformable non-liquid ball core of a second color,

said first color and said second color being visibly different colors, said ball skin being colored to the point of near-opacity,

said ball skin and said ball core having sufficient different physical properties so that they have a different feel from each other when squeezed by a human hand,

said ball skin being stretchable to a point of translucence when the ball is squeezed and ball core is forced against ball skin by the squeezing action,

and when said ball skin is stretched to a point of translucence, color of the ball in the area of said stretched skin experiences a changed based on increased dominance of said second color; wherein said ball skin is made from an elastomer gel and said ball core is made from a material other than an elastomer gel.

3. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,

a deformable non-liquid ball core of a second color,

said first color and said second color being visibly different colors, said ball skin being colored to the point of near-opacity,

said ball skin and said ball core having sufficient different physical properties so that they have a different feel from each other when squeezed by a human hand,

said ball skin being stretchable to a point of translucence when the ball is squeezed and ball core is forced against ball skin by the squeezing action,

and when said ball skin is stretched to a point of translucence, color of the ball in the area of said stretched skin experiences a changed based on increased dominance of said second colors; wherein both said ball skin and said ball core are made from an elastomer gel, and said ball core elastomer gel includes more than a trivial quantity of resin.

4. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,

a deformable non-liquid ball core of a second color,

said first color and said second color being visibly different colors, said ball skin being colored to the point of near-opacity,

said ball skin and said ball core having sufficient different physical properties so that they have a different feel from each other when squeezed by a human hand,

said ball skin being stretchable to a point of translucence when the ball is squeezed and ball core is forced against ball skin by the squeezing action,

and when said ball skin is stretched to a point of translucence, color of the ball in the area of said stretched skin experiences a changed based on increased dominance of said second color; wherein both said ball skin is made from an elastomer gel, and said ball core comprises a hydrated water soluble polymer.

5. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,

a deformable non-liquid ball core of a second color,

said first color and said second color being visibly different colors, said ball skin being colored to the point of near-opacity,

said ball skin and said ball core having sufficient different physical properties so that they have a different feel from each other when squeezed by a human hand,

said ball skin being stretchable to a point of translucence when the ball is squeezed and ball core is forced against ball skin by the squeezing action,

and when said ball skin is stretched to a point of translucence, color of the ball in the area of said stretched skin experiences a changed based on increased dominance of said second color; wherein said ball skin is made from an elastomer gel and said elastomer gel includes:

an elastomer, and

a plasticizer.

6. A ball as recited in claim 5 wherein said elastomer is an A-B-A triblock copolymer.

7. A ball as recited in claim 6 wherein said A-B-A triblock copolymer is selected from the group consisting of SEPS, SEBS and SEEPS.

8. A ball as recited in claim 6 wherein said plasticizer is an oil.

9. A color changing ball comprising:

a stretchable ball skin of a first color,
