Abstract

A method and apparatus for sizing window coverings slidably extendable from a bay into an aisle of a retail outlet. The method includes the steps of locating the center of the window covering relative to a cutting station utilizing a half scale for removing a portion of the window covering from each of its ends.

Claims (37)

1. An adjustable die for sizing a blind, comprising:

a die body, including a head rail opening sized to receive a blind head rail and a slat opening adapted to receive a plurality of blind slats; and

a bottom rail die including a bottom rail opening sized to receive a blind bottom rail;

wherein the bottom rail die is slidable within the slat opening and securable at a selected location within the slat opening such that blind slats can be clamped in the slat opening.

2. The die of claim 1 , the slat opening including a first channel.

3. The die of claim 2 , the bottom rail die including a first profile configured to slide within the first channel.

4. The die of claim 3 , the slat opening including a second channel opposite the first channel.

5. The die of claim 4 , the first channel having a different cross section than the second channel.

6. The die of claim 4 , the bottom rail die having a second profile, the second profile configured to slide within the second channel.

7. The die of claim 4 , the body further including a front side and a rear side, the channels being disposed such that they are either closer to the front side or the rear side.

8. The die of claim 1 , the body further including a plurality of through holes.

9. The die of claim 8 , the bottom rail die block further including an opening.

10. An adjustable die for sizing a blind, comprising:

a die body, including a head rail opening sized to receive a blind head rail, a slat opening adapted to receive a plurality of blind slats, and a plurality of through holes;

a bottom rail die including an opening sized to receive a blind bottom rail and being adjustable to increase or decrease the slat opening, the bottom rail die further including a receiver; and

a pin insertable into the through hole and into the receiver of the bottom rail die to positively locate the bottom rail die.

11. The die of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of holes are disposed lengthwise along the die body, such that the size of the slat opening can be selected by pinning the bottom rail die block at a selected location.

12. The die of claim 10 , wherein the bottom rail die is slidable within the slat opening.

13. The die of claim 12 , the slat opening including a first channel.

14. The die of claim 13 , the bottom rail die including a first profile, the profile configured to slide within the first channel.

15. The die of claim 14 , the slat opening including a second channel opposite the first channel.

16. The die of claim 15 , the first channel having a different cross section than the second channel.

17. The die of claim 15 , the bottom rail die having a second profile, the second profile configured to slide within the second channel.

18. The die of claim 15 , the body further including a front side and a rear side, the channels being disposed such that they are either closer to the front side or the rear side.

19. The die of claim 1 , wherein the movement of the bottom rail die is independent of the movement of a cutter sizing the blinds.

20. An adjustable die for sizing a blind, comprising:

a die body, including a head rail opening sized to receive a blind head rail and a slat opening adapted to receive a plurality of blind slats;

a bottom rail die including a bottom rail opening sized to receive a blind bottom rail,

the bottom rail die being slidable within the slat opening; and

means for securing the bottom rail die within the slat opening, such that blind slats can be clamped in the slat opening.

21. The die of claim 20 , the slat opening including a first channel.

22. The die of claim 21 , the bottom rail die including a first profile, the profile configured to slide within the first channel.

23. The die of claim 22 , the slat opening including a second channel opposite the first channel.

24. The die of claim 23 , the first channel having a different cross section than the second channel.

25. The die of claim 23 , the bottom rail die having a second profile, the second profile configured to slide within the second channel.

26. The die of claim 23 , the body further including a front side and a rear side, the channels being disposed such that they are either closer to the front side or the rear side.

27. The die of claim 20 , wherein the movement of the bottom rail die is independent of the movement of a cutter sizing the blinds.
