Abstract

A print media receiving unit is disclosed. In one embodiment, the print media receiving unit comprises a platform that includes a surface adapted to receive a print medium comprising a spine. The spine may be disposed in a spine receiving portion in the platform. A location detection system capable of determining a location of a selected region of the print medium may be associated with the platform.

Claims (26)

1. A print media receiving unit configured for receiving a print medium having a spine and at least one page having at least one notch, the unit comprising:

(a) a platform including a spine receiving portion, wherein the platform is foldable about the spine receiving portion;

(b) borders located on the platform at one or more extremes of page travel away from the spine receiving portion and defining a recessed region;

(c) a stylus coupled to the platform via a cable;

(d) a location detection system capable of determining a location of a selected region of the print medium using the stylus, wherein the location detection system includes a transmitting radio frequency antenna in the platform and a receiving antenna in the stylus;

(e) a socket in the platform, wherein the socket is capable of receiving a memory device; and

(f) one or more tabs located near either one or two ends of a page pivot line corresponding to the spine receiving portion, each tab configured to receive one of the at least one notches of the at least one page.

2. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 further comprising:

a stylus storage indentation in the platform for storing the stylus.

3. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 further comprising:

finger wells at opposite sides of the recessed region.

4. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 wherein the spine receiving portion is in the form of an open slot.

5. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 wherein the platform is capable of being in a closed position or an open position.

6. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 wherein the socket is at a side of the platform.

7. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 where the location detection system comprises a microprocessor in the platform.

8. The print media receiving unit of claim 1 wherein the platform is capable of closing about the spine receiving portion, and wherein the stylus and cable are retained inside the closed platform.

9. A print media receiving unit configured for receiving a print medium having a spine and at least one page having at least one notch, the unit comprising:

(a) a platform including a spine receiving portion, wherein the platform is foldable about the spine receiving portion;

(b) borders located on the platform at one or more extremes of page travel away from the spine receiving portion and defining a recessed region;

(c) a stylus coupled to the platform via a cable;

(d) a location detection system capable of determining a location of a selected region of the print medium using the stylus, wherein the location detection system includes a transmitting radio frequency antenna in the platform and a receiving antenna in the stylus;

(e) a socket in the platform, wherein the socket is capable of receiving a memory device; and

(f) tabs at both ends of a page pivot line, each tab configured to receive one of the at least one notches of the at least one page.

10. The print media receiving unit of claim 9 wherein the socket is at a side of the platform.

11. The print media receiving unit of claim 9 where the location detection system comprises a microprocessor in the platform.

12. The print media receiving unit of claim 9 wherein the platform is capable closing about the spine receiving portion, and wherein the stylus and cable are retained inside the closed platform.
