Abstract

A projector system is disclosed comprising a sceen and at least one light source to produce a plurality of color planes. The color planes comprise at least a first color plane, a second color plane and a third color plane. The plurality of color planes being projected onto the screen such that the first color plane comprises a different resolution than the second color plane and the third color plane.

Claims (33)

1. A projector system comprising:

a screen;

at least one light source to produce a plurality of color planes comprising at least a first color plane, a second color plane and a third color plane, the plurality of color planes being subpixelated and projected onto the screen such that the first color plane comprises a different resolution than the second color plane and the third color plane.

2. The projector system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of color planes are projected onto the screen such that at least one color plane has an offset with another color plane.

3. The projector system of claim 1 , wherein the first, second, and third color planes are green, red, and blue color planes, respectively, and the green color plane has a higher resolution than the red color plane and the blue color plane.

4. The projector system of claim 1 , wherein the first, second, and third color planes are green, red, and blue color planes, respectively, and the red color plane has a higher resolution than the green color plane and the blue color plane.

5. The projector system of claim 3 , wherein the green color plane has approximately twice the resolution as the red color plane.

6. The projector system of claim 3 , wherein the green color plane is offset from the red color plane and the red color plane is offset from the blue color plane.

7. The projector system of claim 3 , wherein the green color plane is offset from the red color plane and the red color plane and the blue color plane are coincident.

8. A method for producing an image, the method comprising:

receiving image data for the image;

projecting a plurality of color planes based on the image data for the image on a screen, the color planes comprising at least a first color plane, a second color plane and a third color plane, the plurality of color planes; the first color plane comprises a different resolution than the second color plane and the third color plane.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting the color planes onto the screen such that at least one color plane has an offset with another color plane.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting green, red, and blue color planes such that the green color plane has a higher resolution than the red color plane and the blue color plane.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting green, red, and blue color planes such that the red-color plane has a higher resolution than the green color plane and the blue color plane.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting green, red, and blue color planes such that the green color plane has approximately twice the resolution as the red color plane.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting green, red, and blue color planes such that the green color plane is offset from the red color plane and the red color plane is offset from the blue color plane.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein projecting the color planes includes projecting green, red, and blue color planes such that the green color plane is offset from the red color plane and the red color plane and the blue color plane are coincident.

15. A twinned projector system comprising:

a screen;

at least one light source to project a first beam and a second beam, the first and second projected beams including at least a first color plane, a second color plane and a third color plane, the first and second beams projected with an offset from each other, wherein the first and second projected beams, respectively, have an offset of a fraction of a pixel.

16. The twinned projector system of claim 15 , wherein the first and second projected beams, respectively, have an offset by approximately one half a pixel in a diagonal direction.

17. The twinned projector system of claim 15 , wherein color planes of each of the first and second beams fully converge.

18. The twinned projector system of claim 15 , wherein at least one color plane of each of the first and second projected beams is offset from a second color plane.

19. A method for producing an image, the method comprising:

receiving image data for the image; and

projecting a first beam and a second beam for the image based on the image data, the first and second beams including at least a first color plane, a second color plane and a third color plane, the first and second beams being projected with an offset of a fraction of a pixel from each other.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

projecting the first and second beams with an offset by approximately one half a pixel in a diagonal direction.

21. The method of claim 20 , further comprising:

projecting the first and second beams such that the color planes of each of the first and second beams fully converge.

22. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

projecting the first and second beams such that at least one color plane of each of the first and second beams is offset from a second color plane.
