Abstract

An apparatus for frequency and phase acquisition has a voltage-controlled oscillator and a search generator with a forward path and a backward path for generating a search signal with a search frequency, the forward path of the search generator acting as a loop filter when the frequency is locked off. The search signal is symmetrized.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the low-pass filter has a capacitor that is arranged to act as a holding capacitor if the comparator effects no rise in the output voltage at the low-pass filter, and further comprising, before the phase acquisition, charging current means operatively connected to the holding capacitor for compensating for a discharge of the holding capacitor, the charging current means comprising an alternating current source having a duty ratio which differs slightly from unity.

6. The apparatus according to claim 5 , further comprising discharge means operatively connected to the holding capacitor for at least partially discharging the holding capacitor after phase acquisition.

7. An apparatus for frequency and phase acquisition, comprising: a voltage-controlled oscillator having an oscillator frequency; a search generator receiving a detection signal from a phase detector to generate a search signal to the voltage-controlled oscillator and having a forward path and backward paths for generating said search signal with a DC component and a search frequency, a loop filter in the forward path of the search generator for locking the frequencies; and means in a first backward path of said backward paths for automatically canceling the DC component of the search signal, the canceling means including a comparator and a low-pass filter.

8. The apparatus according to claim 7 , and further comprising means in the forward path for effecting a phase shift of about −90 ° during generation of the search signal, and further comprising means in a second backward path of said backward paths for effecting a phase shift of about +90° during generation of the search signal.

9. The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the means for effecting the phase shift of −90° comprises an operational amplifier with capacitive negative feedback.
