Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the production of a glass containing bismuth oxide, the use of such a method for the production of optical glasses, in particular glasses for application in optical telecommunications and a glass which may be produced by said method.

Claims (63)

1 . A process for producing a glass containing bismuth oxide, characterized in that during the melting operation oxygen is blown into the melt.

2 . The process as claimed in claim 1 , in which dried oxygen is blown into the melt.

3 . The process as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , in which halogenated oxygen is blown into the melt.

4 . The process as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which a glass composition of the following composition is melted:

Bi 2 O 3

≧10

Mol %

further oxides

0 to 90

Mol %

rare earth compound

0 to 8

Mol % (based on oxide).

5 . The process as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which a glass composition of the following composition (in Mol %) is melted:

where M I is at least one of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, and M II is at least one of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and/or Zn.

6 . The process as claimed in claim 4 or 5 , in which the rare earth compound used is Er.

7 . The use of the process as claimed in one of claims 1 to 6 for the production of optical glasses.

8 . The use as claimed in claim 7 for the production of glasses for optical communication technology.

9 . The use as claimed in claim 7 or 8 for the production of glasses for optical amplifier media, such as fiber amplifiers and planar amplifiers.

10 . A glass, producible by the process as claimed in one of claims 1 to 6 .
