Cellulose ethers
View Patent ↗A cellulose ether which has from 4,000 to 10,000 anhydroglucose repeat units and is substituted with (a) on the average from 0.0003 to 0.08 moles, per mole of anhydroglucose unit, of a substituent comprising an alkyl or arylalkyl group having from 8 to 24 carbon atoms and (b) a substituent having the formula II wherein R 5 , R 6 and R 7 each independently are —CH 3 or —C 2 H 5 , R 8 is —CH 2 —CHOH—CH 2 — or —CH 2 CH 2 , A z− is an anion, and z is 1, 2 or 3 is useful in hair and skin care compositions.
1. A personal care composition, comprising:
hydroxyethyl cellulose ether having from 6,000 to 8,000 anhydroglucose repeat units, comprising on the average from 1.0 to 3.0 moles of hydroxyethyl groups, per mole of anhydroglucose unit, and being substituted with
(a) on the average from 0.0005 to 0.05 moles, per mole of anhydroglucose unit, of a substituent of the formula I:
R 1 R 2 R 3 R 4 N + (A z− ) 1/z (I)
wherein
R l and R 2 each independently are —CH 3 ,
R 3 is —CH 2 —CHOH—CH 2− ,
R 4 is a dodecyl group, and
A z− is an anion, and
z is 1; and
(b) on the average from 0.15 to 0.35 moles, per mole of anhydroglucose unit, of a substituent having the formula II:

wherein
R 5 , R 6 and R 7 each independently are —CH 3 ,
R 8 is —CH 2 —CHOH—CH 2− ,
A z− is an anion, and
z is 1; and
a personal care ingredient, comprising eucalyptus oil or menthol.
