Abstract

A disinfecting composition comprising an organic peroxyacid and a surfactant wherein the organic peroxyacid is selected from phthalimidopercarboxylic acids of the general formula (I) wherein n is an integer of from 1 to 5, and the surfactant is selected from at least one non-ionic surfactant of the general formula (II), R 1 —(OC 2 H 4 ) n —(OC 3 H 6 ) m —OH, wherein R 1 represents a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group containing 7 to 20 carbon atoms, the sum of the mean degree of ethoxylation n and the mean degree of propoxylation m lies between 0.5 and 7.

Claims (25)

1 . A disinfecting composition comprising an organic peroxyacid and a surfactant wherein the organic peroxyacid is selected from phthalimidopercarboxylic acids of the general formula (I)

wherein n is an integer of from 1 to 5, and the surfactant is selected from at least one non-ionic surfactant of the general formula (II),

R 1 —(OC 2 H 4 ) n —(OC 3 H 6 ) m —OH  (II)

wherein R 1 represents a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group containing 7 to 20 carbon atoms, the sum of the mean degree of ethoxylation n and the mean degree of propoxylation m lies between 0.5 and 7.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of peroxyacid to surfactant is between 20:1 and 1: 1, preferably between 10:1 and 4:1.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the sum of the mean degree of ethoxylation n and the mean degree of propoxylation m of the non-ionic surfactant according to formula (II) is between 1 and 5, preferably between 1 and 3.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the content of organic peroxyacid of the total detergent is between 3 and 30 percent by weight, preferably between 5 and 20 percent by weight.

5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the composition is in the form of a powder.

6 . The composition of claim 5 , wherein the composition is a textile detergent.

7 . The composition of claim 5 , wherein the composition is configured for washing laundry.

8 . The composition of claim 7 , wherein the composition is configured for washing colored laundry.

9 . The composition of claim 7 , wherein the composition is configured for disinfecting washing.

10 . The composition of claim 7 , wherein the composition is configured for mild washing.

11 . The composition of claim 7 , wherein the composition is configured for disinfecting washing of delicate textiles.

12 - 18 . (canceled)

19 . A method of disinfecting laundry comprising:

a) applying to laundry a composition comprising an organic peroxyacid and a surfactant wherein the organic peroxyacid is selected from phthalimidopercarboxylic acids of the general formula (I)

wherein n is an integer of from 1 to 5, and the surfactant is selected from at least one non-ionic surfactant of the general formula (II),

R 1 —(OC 2 H 4 ) n —(OC 3 H 6 ) m —OH  (II)

wherein R 1 represents a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group containing 7 to 20 carbon atoms, the sum of the mean degree of ethoxylation n and the mean degree of propoxylation m lies between 0.5 and 7 and the composition is applied at temperature below 60° C.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the weight ratio of peroxyacid to surfactant is between 20:1 and 1:1, preferably between 10:1 and 4:1.

21 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the sum of the mean degree of ethoxylation n and the mean degree of propoxylation m of the non-ionic surfactant according to formula (II) is between 1 and 5, preferably between 1 and 3.

22 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the content of organic peroxyacid of the total detergent is between 3 and 30 percent by weight, preferably between 5 and 20 percent by weight.

23 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the composition is in the form of a powder.

24 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the composition is applied to colored laundry.
