Abstract

A battery cable circuit protection device and circuit for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply battery is provided. The device includes a terminal base having a battery cable lug member adapted for mounting to and making an electrical connection with a battery post of the battery. A battery cable mounting structure is fixedly connected to the terminal base for detachably connecting the terminal base to a battery cable. The battery cable supplies a vehicle starter motor with electrical energy. A first fuse mount supported by the terminal base provides electrical interconnection to the battery post. A second fuse mount supported by the terminal base provides electrical energy to vehicle electrical systems other than the vehicle starter motor. The first and second fuse mounts are adapted for detachable a connection to a fuse which provides electrical interconnection between the first and second fuse mounts.

Claims (34)

1. A battery cable circuit protection device for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply battery of a vehicle, comprising:

a terminal base having a battery cable lug member adapted for mounting to and making an electrical connection with a battery post of the battery;

a battery cable mounting structure fixedly connected to said terminal base, for detachably securing said terminal base to a battery cable, which battery cable supplies a vehicle starter motor with electrical energy, including mutually spaced first and second battery cable mounting legs extending from the terminal base for engagement with a battery cable from opposite sides, the mounting legs defining with the battery cable lug member a line along which a battery cable is secured;

a first fuse mount supported by said terminal base and providing electrical interconnection to said battery post; and

a second fuse mount supported by said terminal base for providing electrical energy to vehicle electrical systems other than said vehicle starter motor;

wherein said first and second fuse mounts are adapted for detachable connection to a fuse which provides electrical interconnection between said first and second fuse mounts.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein said first and second battery cable mounting legs define an entry so that said terminal base can be attached to or detached from the battery cable by at least partial rotation of said terminal base longitudinally with respect to the battery cable for respectively engaging or disengaging said first and second battery cable mounting legs from the battery cable.

3. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a fuse cover enclosing said main fuse.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein a spare fuse is detachably affixed to the interior surface of said fuse cover.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the battery post is a studded battery post.

6. A circuit for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply battery comprising the battery cable circuit protection device of claim 1 .

7. A battery cable circuit protection device for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply battery of a vehicle, comprising:

a terminal base having a battery cable lug member adapted for mounting to and making an electrical connection with a battery post of the battery;

a battery cable mounting structure fixedly connected to said terminal base, for detachably securing said terminal base to a battery cable, which battery cable supplies a vehicle starter motor with electrical energy, said battery cable mounting structure including mutually spaced first and second battery cable mounting legs extending from the terminal base for engagement with a battery cable from opposite sides, the mounting legs defining with the battery cable lug member a line along which a battery cable is secured;

a first fuse mount supported by said terminal base and providing electrical interconnection to said battery post;

a second fuse mount supported by said terminal base for providing electrical energy to vehicle electrical systems other than said vehicle starter motor;

wherein said first and second fuse mounts are adapted for detachable connection to a fuse which provides electrical interconnection between said first and second fuse mounts; and,

further comprising a device for attaching a vehicle starter cable to said battery post with no intermediary straps or connections.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein said first and second battery cable mounting legs define an entry so that said terminal base can be attached to or detached from the battery cable by at least partial rotation of said terminal base longitudinally with respect to the battery cable for respectively engaging or disengaging said first and second battery cable mounting legs from the battery cable.

9. The device of claim 7 , further comprising a fuse cover enclosing said main fuse.

10. The device of claim 7 , wherein a spare fuse is detachably affixed to the interior surface of said fuse cover.

11. The device of claim 7 , wherein the battery post is a studded battery post.

12. A circuit for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply batter comprising the battery cable circuit protection device of claim 7 .

13. A battery cable circuit protection device for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply battery of a vehicle, comprising:

a terminal base having a battery cable lug member adapted for mounting to and making an electrical connection with a battery post of the battery;

a battery cable mounting structure fixedly connected to said terminal base, for detachably securing said terminal base to a battery cable, which battery cable supplies a vehicle starter motor with electrical energy, wherein said battery cable mounting structure comprises first and second battery cable mounting legs extending from the terminal base on opposite sides laterally of a battery cable mounting space, said first and second battery cable mounting legs being spaced apart longitudinally with respect to the battery cable mounting space, so that said terminal base can be attached to or detached from the battery cable by at least partial rotation of said terminal base longitudinally with respect to the battery cable mounting space for respectively engaging or disengaging said battery cable mounting legs from the battery cable;

a first fuse mount supported by said terminal base and providing electrical interconnection to said battery post; and

a second fuse mount supported by said terminal base for providing electrical energy to vehicle electrical systems other than said vehicle starter motor;

wherein said first and second fuse mounts are adapted for detachable connection to a fuse which provides electrical interconnection between said first and second fuse mounts.

14. The device of claim 13 , further comprising a fuse cover enclosing said main fuse.

15. The device of claim 14 , wherein a spare fuse is detachably affixed to the interior surface of said fuse cover.

16. The device of claim 13 , wherein the battery post is a studded battery post.

17. The device of claim 13 , further comprising a device for attaching a vehicle starter cable to said battery post with no intermediary straps or connections.

18. A circuit for preventing fluctuations in voltage from a supply batter comprising the battery cable circuit protection device of claim 13 .
