Abstract

The invention provides a human AdipoR1 which is associated with the cardiovascular diseases, dermatological diseases, gastroenterological diseases, cancer, hematological diseases, inflammation, respiratory diseases, neurological diseases and urological diseases. The invention also provides assays for the identification of compounds useful in the treatment or prevention of cardiovascular diseases, dermatological diseases, gastroenterological diseases, cancer, hematological diseases, inflammation, respiratory diseases, neurological diseases and urological diseases. The invention also features compounds which bind to and/or activate or inhibit the activity of AdipoR1 as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds.

Claims (6)

1. A method of diagnosing stomach tumor in a human comprising the steps of:

i) determining the amount of an adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1) mRNA comprising SEQ ID NO: 1 in a test sample of said human, and

ii) comparing the amount of said AdipoR1 mRNA from said test sample to the amount of AdipoR1 mRNA comprising SEQ ID NO: 1 in a reference sample of a human that does not suffer from stomach tumor,

wherein said test sample and said reference sample are stomach tissue; and

wherein the amount of AdipoR1 mRNA in the test sample is indicative of a stomach tumor if AdipoR1 is underexpressed in said test sample of stomach tissue relative to said reference sample.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of determining comprises contacting said test sample with a probe comprising SEQ ID NO: 5.
