Abstract

In one embodiment, at least one information handling system receives an excerpt of information. In response to the excerpt, the information handling system performs at least one of the following operations: in an XML format, automatically storing the excerpt in a folder that is preselected by a first user, wherein the folder is accessible by one or more second users specified by the first user; and, in the XML format, automatically outputting the excerpt to one or more second users preselected by the first user.

Claims (50)

1. A method for sharing information through a first remote server having a first storage medium, the method comprising:

receiving, from a first user via a user terminal, an excerpt of information from at least one second storage medium maintained with at least one second remote server different from the first remote server, wherein the excerpt of information includes a site summary feed from a web page;

in response to code instructions received from the user terminal, storing the excerpt, in an XML format, in a folder on the first storage medium maintained at the first remote server, wherein the folder is selected from a group consisting of a group folder and a public folder, wherein the group folder is accessible by one or more second users specified by the first user as a group, and wherein the public folder is accessible to all users subscribed to the public folder;

receiving, from the first user via the user terminal, an identification of a second user with whom the first user wishes to share the excerpt of information; and

transmitting a communication to the second user inviting the second user to view the excerpt of information in the folder.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the excerpt has a non-XML format, the first remote server, in response to the excerpt, automatically translating the excerpt from the non-XML format into the XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with the user terminal.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the excerpt has an alternate XML format, the first remote server, in response to the excerpt, automatically translating the excerpt from the alternate XML format into a generic XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with the user terminal.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in the XML format, automatically outputting the excerpt to one or more second users preselected by the first user.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to a search term query, providing search results of a list of public folders with information about one or more websites comprising the queried search term.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, from the user terminal, a web page address to retrieve the excerpt of information from the second storage device maintained at the second remote server, prior to receiving code instructions from the user terminal to store the excerpt of information.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to a search term query, providing search results of a list of web pages comprising the queried search term; and

receiving, from the user terminal, a selection of a web page from the list of web pages, prior to receiving code instructions from the user terminal to store the excerpt of information.

12. A system, comprising:

at least one information handling system comprising a first computing device and a first storage medium, the at least one information handling system configured to:

receive, from a first user via a user terminal, an excerpt of information from at least one second storage medium maintained with at least one second computing device different from the first computing device, wherein the excerpt of information includes a site summary feed from a web page;

in response to code instructions received from the user terminal, store on the first storage medium the excerpt, in an XML format, in a folder that is preselected by a first user, wherein the folder is selected from a group consisting of a group folder and a public folder, wherein the group folder is accessible by one or more second users specified by the first user as a group, and wherein the public folder is accessible to all users subscribed to the public folder;

receive, from the first user via the user terminal, an identification of a second user with whom the first user wishes to share the excerpt of information; and

transmit a communication to the second user inviting the second user to view the excerpt of information in the folder.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the excerpt has a non-XML format, and wherein the information handling system is further configured to:

in response to the excerpt, automatically translate the excerpt from the non-XML format into the XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with a user terminal.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the excerpt has an alternate XML format, and wherein the first information handling system is further configured to:

in response to the excerpt, automatically translate the excerpt from the alternate XML format into a generic XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with a user terminal.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

19. A tangible, non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a set of instructions, which when executed by a first computer having a processor and a first storage medium, cause the first computer to perform operations, comprising:

receiving, from a first user via a user terminal, an excerpt of information from at least one second storage mediums maintained with at least one second computer different from the first computer, wherein the excerpt of information includes a site summary feed from a web page;

in response to code instructions received from the user terminal, store on the first storage medium the excerpt, in an XML format, in a folder that is preselected by a first user, wherein the folder is selected from a group consisting of a group folder and a public folder, wherein the group folder is accessible by one or more second users specified by the first user as a group, and wherein the public folder is accessible to all users subscribed to the public folder;

receiving, from the first user via the user terminal, an identification of a second user with whom the first user wishes to share the excerpt of information; and

transmitting a communication to the second user inviting the second user to view the excerpt of information in the folder.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the excerpt has a non-XML format, and wherein the first computer perform operations further comprising, in response to the excerpt, automatically translating the excerpt from the non-XML format into the XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with the user terminal.

21. The computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

22. The computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

23. The computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the excerpt has an alternate XML format, and wherein the first computer perform operations further comprising,

in response to the excerpt, automatically translating the excerpt from the alternate XML format into a generic XML format, so that the translated excerpt is compatible for operation with the user terminal.

24. The computer readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the stored excerpt is the translated excerpt.

25. The computer readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the output excerpt is the translated excerpt.

26. A method performed by at least one information handling system, the method comprising:

at a computing device, receiving, from a first user via a user terminal, an excerpt of information about one or more websites from at least one first storage medium maintained with at least one first remote server different from the computing device, wherein the excerpt of information includes a site summary feed from a web page;

at the computing device, receiving a folder selection from the first user via the user terminal to store the excerpt therein, the folder is selected from a group consisting of a group folder and a public folder, wherein the group folder is accessible to one or more second users specified by the first user as a group, and wherein the public folder is accessible to any user subscribed to the public folder;

in response to code instructions received from the user terminal, storing, on a second storage medium maintained at the computing device, the excerpt in the folder selected by the first user;

at the computing device, receiving, from the first user via the user terminal, an identification of a second user with whom the first user wishes to share the excerpt of information; and

transmitting, by the computing device, a communication to the second user inviting the second user to view the excerpt of information in the folder.

27. The method of claim 26 , further comprising, in response to a search term query, providing search results of a list of public folders with information about one or more websites comprising the queried search term.
