Printhead assembly having two sets of fluid inlets
View Patent ↗A printhead housing has one or more passageways that communicate with one or more printhead chips. The passageways each have two or more inlets so that the housing may be used in different configurations. In use one inlet is connected to a source of fluid to be printed whilst the other inlet is closed by a closure.
1. A housing for an inkjet type printhead, the housing including at least two modules comprising:
at least one mounting for at least one printhead chip; and
at least one fluid passageway having at least one fluid inlet at a first end for connection to a source of fluid to be printed by the at least one printhead chip and at least one outlet that, in use, is in fluid communication with the at least one printhead chip for delivering said fluid to the at least one printhead chip,
wherein the modules me arranged end-to-end so as to have a second end of each the respective fluid passageways interconnected.
2. The housing of claim 1 being elongate with a plurality of mountings extending end-on-end along the length of the housing.
3. The housing of claim 1 wherein the housing is symmetric in at least one view.
4. The housing of claim 1 wherein each fluid passageway has a plurality of fluid inlets each for connection to a source of a different fluid to be printed by the at least one printhead chip.
5. A printhead assembly for an inkjet type printer, the assembly including:
a housing having at least two modules; and
a plurality of printhead chips mounted on or in each of the modules of the housing,
wherein each module of the housing includes at least one passageway in fluid communication with at least one printhead chip, and
each passageway has at least one fluid inlet at a first end for connection to a source of fluid to be printed by the at least one printhead chip and is interconnected with the respective passageway of another module at a second end.
6. The assembly of claim 5 including at least one closure closing at least one of the fluid inlets.
7. The assembly of claim 6 wherein the housing is elongate and each respective passageway has a plurality of fluid inlets each for connection to a source of a different fluid to be printed by the plurality of printhead chips.
8. The assembly of claim 5 being symmetric in at least one view.
9. A printer including a printhead assembly having at least two modules each comprising a fluid passageway in communication with a printhead chip and interconnected with the fluid passageway of another module, the fluid passageway of a first module having at least one fluid inlet connected at the free end thereof to a source of fluid to be printed by the printhead chip and the fluid passageway of a second module having at least one fluid inlet at the free end thereof closed by a closure.
