Abstract

A continuous print media printer prints inks and drying agents substantially simultaneously to aid drying of the inks. The drying agent may be a fixative. The inks and drying agent may be printed by different printheads, one located downstream of the other.

Claims (13)

1. A method of aiding drying of printed material in a continuous media inkjet type printer, the continuous media inkjet type printer comprising a loading mechanism which comprises a pair of opposed endless belts mounted on rollers such that the endless belts rotate in opposing derections when feeding media between them, the method including:

substantially simultaneously printing at least one ink and at least one drying agent and further printing at least one fixative onto the media, the at least one drying agent reducing the drying time of at least one of the at least one ink on the media compared to when printed without the drying agent; and

blowing warm air through the belts, which are foraminous, and over at least one surface of the media to facilitate drying of the printed media.

The method of claim 1 further including providing a first printhead, that prints at least one of the at least one ink, and a second printhead, that prints at least one of the at least one drying agent, adjacent to the first printhead, the second printhead being located downstream of the first printhead.

3. The method of claim 1 including printing on both surfaces of the continuous print media.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one drying agent facilitates drying in warm air.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method includes printing the ink and the drying agent onto the media from separate and respective ink and drying agent suppliers.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the drying agent is varnish.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the drying agent further facilitates the fixation of the ink on the media.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the method includes:

activating a motor operably connected to the pair of opposed endless belts, such that the pair of opposed endless belts abut each other;

feeding a leading edge of the media between the pair of opposed endless belts, such that the media is at least partially fed through the inkjet type printer; and

activating the motor to separate the pair of opposed endless belts, such that the force borne from the belts on the media during printing is restricted due to the separation of the opposed endless belts.
