Abstract

An implant delivery system includes a carrier that is attached to an implant. The carrier includes a main body having a lower portion to be attached to the implant and an upper portion. The upper portion includes an internally threaded section having a polygonal internal cross-section. The polygonal cross-section engages a tool that applies torque to install the implant into bone. The threaded section receives a threaded portion of a secondary component to be coupled to the carrier after the implant has been installed. One secondary component is a gingival healing component. Thus, the combination of the carrier and the gingival healing component acts as a healing abutment after the carrier has been used to install the implant.

Claims (26)

1. A dental impression coping, comprising:

an outer surface to be embedded in resilient impression material, said outer surface having a non-circular cross-sectional profile; and

a boss having a non-round cross-section and being located at a bottom of said impression coping, said non-round cross-section for non-rotationally locking said impression coping relative to a component to which said impression coping is attached, said boss including at least one slit extending therethrough allowing said boss to be expandable in the radial direction.

2. The dental impression coping of claim 1 , wherein said impression coping is a transfer-type impression coping, said non-circular cross-sectional profile of said outer surface being circumferentially symmetric around a central axis of said coping such that said transfer type impression coping can be reinserted into said impression material in at least two orientations after an impression is taken.

3. The dental impression coping of claim 1 , further in combination with said impression material, said impression coping including means for registering the axial position of said impression coping within said impression material.

4. The combination of claim 3 , wherein said registering means is a circumferentially extending recess in said outer surface.

5. The dental impression coping of claim 1 , wherein said boss includes a circumferential groove.

6. The dental impression coping of claim 1 , further in combination with a carrier, said boss fitting within a non-round bore in carrier to non-rotationally lock said impression coping relative to said carrier.

7. The dental impression coping of claim 1 , further including an internal bore extending through said impression coping, said internal bore for receiving a screw.

8. The dental impression coping of claim 7 , further in combination with a pick-up screw, said impression coping is a pick-up type impression coping and said pick-up screw extends substantially above a topmost surface of said impression coping when inserted into said internal bore.

9. A dental impression coping, comprising:

an upper portion having an outer surface to be embedded in resilient impression material, said outer surface having a non-circular cross-sectional profile for registering a position of said impression coping within said impression material; and

a lower portion having a boss with a plurality of flat surfaces for mating with corresponding flat surfaces within an internal bore of a component to which said impression coping is coupled, said lower portion including at least one slit for dividing said lower portion into separate sections, said separate sections being expandable in said internal bore of said component to which said impression coping is coupled.

10. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , wherein said at least one slit extend entirely through said boss.

11. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , further including a circumferential recess extending entirely around said outer surface within said upper portion for registering the axial position of said impression coping within said impression material.

12. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , wherein said lower portion includes a circumferential groove.

13. The dental impression coping of claim 12 , wherein said circumferential groove is located within said boss.

14. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , further including an internal bore extending through said impression coping, said internal bore for receiving a screw.

15. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , wherein said impression coping is capable of being used as a pick-up type impression coping or a transfer-type impression coping.

16. The dental impression coping of claim 9 , further in combination with a carrier, said carrier being said component having said internal bore with said corresponding flat surfaces.

17. A dental impression coping, comprising:

an upper portion having an outer surface to be embedded in resilient impression material, said outer surface having a non-circular cross-sectional profile for registering a position of said impression coping within said impression material; and

an expandable lower portion for mating with an internal bore of a component to which said impression coping is coupled, said expandable lower portion including a plurality of flat surfaces for holding said impression coping anti-rotationally with respect to the component.

18. The dental impression coping of claim 17 , further in combination with a carrier, said carrier being said component.

19. The dental impression coping of claim 17 , wherein said lower portion includes a circumferential groove.

20. The dental impression coping of claim 17 , further including a circumferential recess extending entirely around said outer surface for registering the axial position of said impression coping within said impression material.
