Surface coating for microfluidic devices that incorporate a biopolymer resistant moiety
View Patent ↗Methods of coating the surfaces of the microchannels of a microfluidic device are provided. These methods include silylating a first portion of the surfaces of the microchannels with a first silylating reagent to produce a first silylated surface, and silylating a second portion of the surfaces of the microchannels with a second silylating reagent to produce a second silylated surface.
1. A method for modifying the hydrophobicity of a surface of a microchannel, the method comprising:
silylating a first portion of the surface of the microchannel with a first silylation reagent to produce a first silylated surface while masking a second portion of the surface so that the first silylation reagent does not contact the second portion of the surface, and
silylating the second portion of the surface of the microchannel with a second silylation reagent to produce a second silylated surface.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of derivatizing the surface of the microchannel after silylating the first and second portions of the surface of the microchannel.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of silylating a second portion of the surface further comprises treating both the first portion and the second portion of the surface with the second silylation reagent.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of derivatizing the surface comprises connecting a polymer to the microchannel surface through an intermediate linking group.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of silylating a second portion of the surface further comprises masking the first portion of the surface so that the second silylation reagent does not contact the first portion of the surface.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of derivatizing the surface comprises forming a polymer.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymer comprises a hydrophobic polymer.
8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymer is a polymeric ether.
9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymer is a polymeric alcohol.
10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymer is a polyethylenimine.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein either the first or second silylation reagents is a silane.
