Abstract

A method for creating a disk drive. A slider is installed in a disk drive having at least one unlubricated disk. The slider is designed to be in initial contact. The slider is burnished to the final design point. A vapor phase lubricant reservoir system is installed in the drive either before or after the burnishing step.

Claims (24)

1. A method, comprising:

installing a slider into a disk drive having at least one unlubricated disk, the slider being designed to be in contact with the disk at initial use;

burnishing the slider about to equilibrium;

installing a vapor phase lubricant reservoir system in the drive;

wherein a lubricant of the vapor phase lubricant reservoir system is combined with a diluent,

wherein multiple sliders are installed and burnished, wherein about 0.5-10% of a number of the sliders installed in the disk drive are in contact with the at least one disk prior to burnishing.

2. A method, comprising:

installing a slider into a disk drive having at least one unlubricated disk, the slider being designed to be in contact with the disk at initial use;

burnishing the slider about to equilibrium;

installing a vapor phase lubricant reservoir system in the drive;

wherein a lubricant of the vapor phase lubricant reservoir system is combined with a diluent,

wherein multiple sliders are installed and burnished, wherein about 10-25% of a number of the sliders installed in the disk drive are in contact with the at least one disk prior to burnishing.

3. A method, comprising:

installing a slider into a disk drive having at least one unlubricated disk, the slider being designed to be in contact with the disk at initial use;

burnishing the slider about to equilibrium;

installing a vapor phase lubricant reservoir system in the drive;

wherein a lubricant of the vapor phase lubricant reservoir system is combined with a diluent,

wherein multiple sliders are installed and burnished, wherein about 25-50% of a number of the sliders installed in the disk drive are in contact with the at least one disk prior to burnishing.

4. A method, comprising:

installing a slider into a disk drive having at least one unlubricated disk, the slider being designed to be in contact with the disk at initial use;

burnishing the slider about to equilibrium;

installing a vapor phase lubricant reservoir system in the drive;

wherein a lubricant of the vapor phase lubricant reservoir system is combined with a diluent,

wherein multiple sliders are installed and burnished, wherein about 50-80% of a number of the sliders installed in the disk drive are in contact with the at least one disk prior to burnishing.
