Abstract

A method for registering biometric information for use in a smartcard-reader system is disclosed. The method includes steps of detecting, verifying and storing a proffered biometric sample. During detecting, a sensor detects a proffered biometric to obtain a biometric sample. During the verifying step, the biometric sample is compared with other stored samples and/or other information. During the storing step, the biometric sample is stored on a database, for use by the smartcard-reader system in authorizing transactions.

Claims (15)

1 . A method for registering biometric information for use in a smartcard system, said method comprising:

detecting a proffered biometric at a sensor to obtain a proffered biometric sample;

verifying said proffered biometric sample;

storing said proffered biometric sample on a database and

associating said proffered biometric sample with a smartcard such that said smartcard system utilizes said proffered biometric sample to authorize a smartcard payment utilizing said smartcard.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of detecting includes at least one of; detecting, associating, and processing a proffered biometric sample.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of detecting includes logging each proffered biometric sample.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of detecting includes at least one of detecting, associating, and processing at least one additional proffered biometric sample.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of verifying a biometric sample further includes at least one of processing, comparing, and verifying said biometric sample.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of verifying includes comparing a proffered biometric sample with a stored biometric sample.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein comparing a proffered biometric sample with a stored biometric sample includes comparing a proffered biometric sample with a biometric sample of at least one of a criminal, a terrorist, and a cardmember.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of verifying includes verifying a proffered biometric sample using information contained on at least one of a local database, a remote database, and a third-party controlled database.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of verifying includes verifying a proffered biometric sample using at least one of a local CPU and a third-party security vendor.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of verifying a biometric sample further includes facilitating the use of at least one secondary security procedure.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of storing a biometric sample includes storing a proffered biometric sample on at least one of a local database, a remote database, and a third-party controlled database.
