Abstract

The present invention features a coke drum de-heading system that enables the de-heading of a coke drum without having to physically remove the head units. This is essentially accomplished using one of a variety of specially designed de-header valves that may be removably coupled to a coke drum much the same way a conventional head or flange unit would be attached.

Claims (27)

1. A coke drum de-header system comprising:

(a) a coke drum having at least one port therein, wherein said coke drum is structured to receive molten petroleum residuum;

(b) a de-header valve removably coupled to said port of said coke drum for regulating the throughput of said port and for allowing repeated de-heading and re-heading of the coke drum, said de-header valve comprising:

( 1 ) a main body having an orifice dimensioned to align with said port of said coke drum when said de-header valve is coupled thereto;

( 2 ) a valve closure operably supported by said main body, said valve closure capable of being actuated to oscillate between an open and closed position with respect to said orifice and said port;

(3) a seat support system within the main body that is structured to support said valve closure, wherein said seat support system comprises at least one live loaded upper seat that forms a contact seal with the valve closure and is structured to move axially while said valve closure is actuated between the open and the closed position to accommodate surface variance on the valve closure while maintaining the contact seal such that the contact seal shears accumulated coke and effectively de-heads the coke drum upon actuation of the valve closure;

(4) an upper bonnet coupled to the main body;

(5) a lower bonnet coupled to the main body; and

(6) an internal coke containment system structured to maintain total isolation of the coke within the system comprising a plate having a first end that is contiguous with one or more of the at least one live loaded upper seat that is on the lower bonnet side of the main body and a second end that extends into the lower bonnet to provide a planar surface that contacts the surface of the valve closure forming a contact seal.

2. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said seat support system comprises dual, independent seats positioned opposite one another on either side of said valve closure, wherein said dual, independent seats are selected from a group consisting of a static seat and a dynamic seat.

3. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said seat support system comprises at least one static seat.

4. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said seat support system comprises a static seat positioned opposite a complimentary live loaded seat.

5. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said de-header valve is a sliding blind gate valve.

6. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said main body contacts said valve closure and functions as a seat in said seat support system.

7. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , further comprising a steam purge system operable connected to the main body, wherein the steam purge system allows excess pressurized steam to vent from the de-header valve.

8. The coke drum de-header system of claim 1 , wherein said means for supporting said valve closure comprises portions of said main body adapted to support said valve closure and provide said contact seal.

9. A sliding blind gate de-header valve comprising:

main body configured to be removable coupled to a coke drumthat is structured to receive molten petroleum residuum, wherein said main body comprises an orifice dimensioned to align with an opening of said coke drum;

an upper bonnet coupled to the main body;

a lower bonnet coupled to the main body;

a valve closure that slides, within the main body and the upper and lower bonnet, between an open and a closed position;

a seat support system within the main body that is structured to support said valve closure, wherein said seat support system comprises at least one live loaded upper seat that is structured to move axially while the valve closure is slid between the open and the closed positioned to accommodate surface variance on the valve closure thus forming a contact seal that shears an accumulated head of coke when the valve closure is slide from the closed position to the open position; and

an internal coke containment system structured to maintain isolation of the coke within the system comprising a plate having a first end that is contiguous with one or more of the at least one live loaded upper seat that is on the lower bonnet side of the main body and a second end that extends into the lower bonnet to provide a planner surface that contacts the surface of the valve closure forming a contact seal.

10. The sliding blind gate de-header valve of claim 9 , wherein said seat support system comprises dual, independent live loaded dynamic seats positioned on opposing sides of said valve closure.

11. The sliding blind gate de-header valve of claim 9 , wherein said seat support comprises, at least one independent static lower seat positioned on an opposing side of said valve closure from the at least one live loaded upper seat.

12. The sliding blind gate de-header valve of claim 9 , wherein said seat support system comprises a single seat positioned about said valve closure.

13. The sliding blind gate de-header valve of claim 9 , wherein said main body contacts said valve closure and functions as a seat in said seat support system.
