Abstract

Thus, as shown by an exact electrodynamic computation of EMBF and the estimations described above of the velocity of turbulent flows arising due to their effect, application of amplitude- and frequency-modulated helically traveling (rotating and axially traveling) electromagnetic fields in metallurgical and chemical technologies and foundry can considerably increase the hydraulic efficiency of MHD facilities, intensify the processes of heat and mass transfer in technological plants, significantly increase their productivity, considerably decrease energy consumption for the production of metals, alloys, cast articles, and chemical products, and improve their quality.

Claims (6)

1. A method of controlling the crystalling structure of ingots and castings of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, in which a melt is crystallized in helically traveling magnetic fields excited by m-phase systems of alternating currents, the method comprising:

providing inductors positioned around a metal melt;

applying m-phase systems of alternating hierarchically frequency- and amplitude- modulated currents (hereinafter SuperWaves) to the inductors positioned around the melt to excite hierarchically frequency- and amplitude-modulated helically traveling magnetic fields in the melt.

2. A method of controlling the crystalline structure according to claim 1 , wherein said m-phase systems of alternating currents (SuperWaves) are periodically switched on for a certain time interval and switched off with a certain time interval.

3. A method of controlling the crystalline structure according to claim 1 or 2 , wherein amplitude modulation depth and frequency deviation (SuperWaves parameters) are periodically changed in time.

4. A method of controlling the crystalline structure according to claim 1 or 2 , wherein amplitude depth and frequency deviation grow with increasing thickness of the crystallizing solid phase.
