Abstract

Embodiments may provide a telephone and a computing device coupled to the telephone, the computing device to establish a telephone call with the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol.

Claims (50)

1. A system comprising:

a telephone; and

a computing device coupled to the telephone by a computer network, the computing device to establish a telephone call through the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol;

the telephone to transmit telephone call signals to the computing device over the computer network, the telephone call signals including media information, the media information including voice information;

wherein the signaling protocol comprises an Internet Protocol.

2. A system according to claim 1 ,

the computing device to transmit telephone call signals over the computer network to the telephone.

3. A system according to claim 1 , the computer network comprising an Internet Protocol computing network.

4. A system according to claim 1 , the telephone further comprising:

a base station to receive a telephone line;

a telephone handset to communicate with the base station; and

a second telephone handset to communicate with the base station,

the computing device to establish the telephone call with the first telephone handset using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol, and to establish a second telephone call with the second telephone handset using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol.

5. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the telephone call is a telephone call between two telephones.

6. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the telephone call is a telephone call between the telephone and another telephone.

7. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the telephone is to receive telephone call signals from a telephone line and to transmit the telephone call signals over the computer network to the computing device;

wherein the computing device is to receive the telephone call signals transmitted by the telephone and to transmit the received telephone call signals over the computer network back to the telephone; and

wherein the telephone to receive the telephone call signals transmitted by the computing device over the computer network and to conduct a telephone call based on the telephone call signals transmitted by the computing device.

8. A method for a computing device, the method comprising:

communicating with a telephone to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol; and

receiving telephone call signals from the telephone over an Internet Protocol computing network, the telephone call signals including media information, the media information including voice information;

wherein the communicating with a telephone to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol comprises:

communicating with the telephone to establish the telephone call over the Internet Protocol computing network.

9. A method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

communicating with the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish the telephone call with a first telephone handset associated with the telephone and communicating with the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish a second telephone call with a second telephone handset associated with the telephone.

10. A method for a telephone, the method comprising:

communicating with a computing device to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol; and

transmitting telephone call signals to the computing device over an Internet Protocol computing network, the telephone call signals including media information, the media information including voice information;

wherein the communicating with a computing device to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol comprises:

communicating with the computing device to establish the telephone call over the Internet Protocol computing network.

11. A method according to claim 10 , further comprising:

communicating with the computing device using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish the telephone call with a first telephone handset associated with the telephone and communicating with the computing device using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish a second telephone call with a second telephone handset associated with the telephone.

12. A computing device comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device coupled to the processor and storing instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to:

communicate with a telephone to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol; and

receive telephone call signals from the telephone over an Internet Protocol computing network, the telephone call signals including media information, the media information including voice information;

wherein the instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to communicate with a telephone to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol comprise:

instructions adapted to be executed by said processor to communicate with the telephone to establish the telephone call over the Internet Protocol computing network.

13. A device according to claim 12 , the instructions further adapted to be executed by said processor to:

communicate with the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish the telephone call with a first telephone handset associated with the telephone and communicating with the telephone using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish a second telephone call with a second telephone handset associated with the telephone.

14. A telephone comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device coupled to the processor and storing instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to:

communicate with a computing device to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol; and

transmit telephone call signals to the computing device over an Internet Protocol computing network, the telephone call signals including media information, the media information including voice information;

wherein the instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to communicate with a computing device to establish a telephone call using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol comprise:

instructions adapted to be executed by said processor to communicate with the computing device to establish the telephone call over the Internet Protocol computing network.

15. A method according to claim 14 , the instructions further adapted to be executed by said processor to:

communicate with the computing device using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish the telephone call with a first telephone handset associated with the telephone and communicating with the computing device using a signaling protocol other than a Session Initiation Protocol to establish a second telephone call with a second telephone handset associated with the telephone.
