Abstract

A cordless telephone system including at least a first cordless base and a first handset, wherein either or both of the cordless base or the handset further contain a wireless receiver for receiving signals from at least one wireless sensor. The wireless sensor sends its wireless communications in a different frequency band than is used by the cordless telephone system. This cordless telephone system is typically based upon the same architecture and same components as a security system or security network described in cross referenced applications, but the product packaging appears in an embodiment that is more familiar to users as a cordless telephone system. The wireless sensors can be in several example forms such as intrusion sensors, which are used for example in perimeter monitoring or motion sensing, fire or smoke sensors, glass breakage sensors, or temperature sensors.

Claims (45)

1. A cordless telephone system including at least one cordless base connected to a telecommunications interface and at least one handset in wireless communications with the cordless base, wherein the handset further contains a wireless receiver that can receive wireless communications from at least one wireless sensor and the handset can forward wireless communications received from the wireless sensor to the cordless base.

2. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the telecommunications interface is a telephone line of the type typically provided by a public switched telephone network.

3. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the telecommunications interface is an Ethernet-based connection of the type typically provided by wired or wireless internet services.

4. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the telecommunications interface is a commercial mobile radio service.

5. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect intrusion.

6. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect smoke.

7. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect fire.

8. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect the breakage of glass.

9. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect temperature.

10. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency band different from a second frequency band that is used between the cordless base and the handset.

11. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor operates under at least one subpart of FCC rule section 47 CFR 15.231.

12. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency range that is never used during wireless communications between the cordless base and the handset.

13. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a frequency band that is between 300 MHz and 500 MHz.

14. The cordless telephone system in claim 1 wherein the handset can cause an audio alert.

15. The cordless telephone system in claim 14 wherein the cordless telephone system further contains a second handset and wherein the audio alert is caused at the second handset.

16. A cordless telephone system including at least one cordless base connected to a telecommunications interface and at least one handset in wireless communications with the cordless base, wherein the handset further contains a wireless receiver that can receive wireless communications from at least one wireless sensor and the handset can interpret the wireless communications received from the wireless sensor and determine whether to forward the wireless communications to the cordless base.

17. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the telecommunications interface is a telephone line of the type typically provided by a public switched telephone network.

18. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the telecommunications interface is an Ethernet-based connection of the type typically provided by wired or wireless internet services.

19. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the telecommunications interface is a commercial mobile radio service.

20. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect intrusion.

21. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect smoke.

22. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect fire.

23. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect the breakage of glass.

24. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect temperature.

25. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency band different from a second frequency band that is used between the cordless base and the handset.

26. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor operates under at least one subpart of FCC rule section 47 CFR 15.231.

27. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency range that is never used during wireless communications between the cordless base and the said handset.

28. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a frequency band that is between 300 MHz and 500 MHz.

29. The cordless telephone system in claim 16 wherein the handset can cause an audio alert.

30. The cordless telephone system in claim 29 wherein the cordless telephone system further contains a second handset and wherein the audio alert is caused at the second handset.

31. A cordless telephone system including at least one cordless base connected to a telecommunications interface and at least one handset in wireless communications with the cordless base, wherein the handset further contains a wireless receiver that can receive wireless communications from at least one wireless sensor and the handset can send a message to the cordless base indicating that the wireless receiver has received a message from the wireless sensor.

32. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the telecommunications interface is a telephone line of the type typically provided by a public switched telephone network.

33. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the telecommunications interface is an Ethernet-based connection of the type typically provided by wired or wireless internet services.

34. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the telecommunications interface is a commercial mobile radio service.

35. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect intrusion.

36. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect smoke.

37. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect fire.

38. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect the breakage of glass.

39. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor can be used to detect temperature.

40. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency band different from a second frequency band that is used between the cordless base and the handset.

41. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor operates under at least one subpart of FCC rule section 47 CFR 15.231.

42. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a first frequency range that is never used during wireless communications between the cordless base and the handset.

43. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the wireless sensor operates in a frequency band that is between 300 MHz and 500 MHz.

44. The cordless telephone system in claim 31 wherein the handset can cause an audio alert.

45. The cordless telephone system in claim 44 wherein the cordless telephone system further contains a second handset and wherein the audio alert is caused at the second handset.
