Abstract

Chemically stable, insecticidally active pellets having a low moisture content and at least about 95% active ingredient are described, as well as a method for manufacturing them. The active ingredient is selected from a class of N-hydrocarboyl phosphoroamidothioate and phosphoroamidodithioate compounds as described in the specification. The pellets generally have a moisture content of about 0.5% by weight or less, preferably less than about 0.3% by weight. The pellets can be produced by one of two types of processes as described in detail, including a high pressure axial extrusion process and a low pressure basket extrusion process.

Claims (16)

1. An insecticidal pellet consisting essentially of acephate and a vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer polymeric processing aid, wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97% by weight or more, and wherein said pellet has a moisture content of up to about 0.5% by weight and is chemically stable.

2. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 1 , wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97 to about 99.5% by weight.

3. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 1 , wherein said pellet has a bulk density of about 36 to about 40 lbs/ft3.

4. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 1 , wherein the polymeric processing aid is present in amount of about 0.5 to about 3% by weight.

5. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 1 , wherein the pellet has a moisture content of up to about 0.3% by weight.

6. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 1 , wherein the pellet contains no organic solvents.

7. A chemically stable insecticidal pellet consisting essentially of acephate and a vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer polymeric processing aid, wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97% by weight or more, wherein the vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer polymeric processing aid is present in an amount up to about 3% by weight, and wherein said pellet has a moisture content of up to about 0.3% by weight and remains substantially free-flowing without caking or compaction under drum storage conditions.

8. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 7 , wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97 to about 99.5% by weight.

9. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 7 , wherein said pellet has a bulk density of about 36 to about 40 lbs/ft3.

10. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 7 , wherein the vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer polymeric processing aid is present in amount of about 0.5 to about 3% by weight.

11. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 7 , wherein the pellet contains no organic solvents.

12. A chemically stable insecticidal pellet consisting essentially of acephate and up to about 3% by weight of a vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer polymeric processing aid, wherein said pellet has a moisture content of up to about 0.3% by weight and remains substantially free-flowing without caking or compaction under drum storage conditions, and wherein said pellet has a bulk density of about 26 to about 31 lbs/ft3.

13. A chemically stable insecticidal pellet consisting essentially of acephate and up to about 3% by weight of a polymeric processing aid, wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97% by weight or more, wherein said pellet has a moisture content of up to about 0.3% by weight and remains substantially free-flowing without caking or compaction under drum storage conditions, and wherein the polymeric processing aid is a vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer.

14. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 13 , wherein said acephate is present in an amount of about 97 to about 99.5% by weight or more.

15. The chemically stable insecticidal pellet according to claim 13 , wherein said pellet has a bulk density of about 36 to about 40 lbs/ft3.

16. The insecticidal pellet according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric processing aid is present in amount of about 0.5 to about 3% by weight.
