Abstract

A medical device including a catheter having a first component having a first color and a wall thickness and a second component having a second color different from the first color and a wall thickness. The first component and the second component are joined by a lap weld having a wall thickness such that the wall thickness of the lap weld is greater than the first component wall thickness and also greater than the second component wall thickness. The first component wall thickness is spaced apart from the lap weld and the second component wall thickness is spaced apart from the lap weld. The first component is disposed over the second component and the first color is selected from the group consisting of blue, green, orange, yellow, or purple.

Claims (23)

1. A medical device, comprising:

a catheter comprising a first component having a first color and a wall thickness and a second component having a second color different from the first color and a wall thickness, wherein the first component and the second component are joined by a lap weld having a wall thickness such that the wall thickness of the lap weld is greater than the first component wall thickness and also greater than the second component wall thickness, wherein the first component wall thickness is spaced apart from the lap weld and wherein the second component wall thickness is spaced apart from the lap weld, wherein the first component is disposed over the second component and wherein the first color is selected from the group consisting of blue, green, orange, yellow or purple.

2. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first color corresponds to light having a wavelength of from about 491 nanometers to about 700 nanometers.

3. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the second color corresponds to light having a wavelength of from about 400 nanometers to about 491 nanometers.

4. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the catheter is a balloon catheter.

5. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises an outer portion, a balloon, or a tip.

6. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises a proximal outer portion and the second component comprises a distal outer portion.

7. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises a balloon and the second component comprises a distal outer portion.

8. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises a tip and the second component comprises an inner portion.

9. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises a balloon and the second component comprises an inner portion.

10. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first component comprises a first polymer.

11. The medical device of claim 10 , wherein the second component comprises a second polymer.

12. The medical device of claim 11 , wherein the first polymer and the second polymer are the same.

13. The medical device of claim 11 , wherein the first polymer and the second polymer are different.

14. The medical device of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the first polymer and the second polymer comprises a nylon or a polyether-polyamide block copolymer.

15. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the catheter has a burst pressure of more than about 235 psi.

16. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein a contrast between the first component and the second component is more than about ten percent.

17. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein a contrast between the first component and the second component is more than about 20 percent.

18. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein a contrast between the first component and the second component is more than about 30 percent.

19. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the lap weld has a length of from about 3.0 millimeters to about 5.0 millimeters.

20. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the lap weld has a thickness of from about 0.0012 inch to about 0.011 inch.

21. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the catheter is a rapid exchange catheter.

22. The medical device of claim 1 wherein the first component thickness is constant along a length and wherein the second component thickness is constant along a length.
