Abstract

A color-filter substrate assembly 10 includes a substrate 3 b having a rugged surface, a light-shield layer 7 a arranged on the substrate 3 b , and having a rugged surface conformal to the rugged surface of the substrate 3 b , a reflective layer 5 arranged on the light-shield layer 7 a and having a rugged surface conformal to the rugged surface of the light-shield layer 7 a , and a color layer 4 arranged on the substrate 3 b . The light-shield layer 7 a has an aperture 8 , and the reflective layer 5 a has an aperture 6 , and is covered with the color layer 4 . The invention provides a color-filter substrate assembly which is inexpensive, and provides, in the simple structure thereof, excellent functionality with a light-shield function, such as of a black mask, and a scattering function for a reflective-type display when the color-filter substrate assembly is used in an electro-optical device (such as a reflective-type liquid-crystal display device or a transflective-type liquid-crystal display device).

Claims (33)

1. A color-filter substrate assembly comprising:

a light-transmitting substrate that transmits light;

a light-shield layer arranged on the light-transmitting substrate, the light-shield layer having an aperture;

a reflective layer arranged on the light-shield layer, the reflective layer having a first aperture that is aligned with the aperture of the light-shield layer and a second aperture that exposes the light-shield layer through the second aperture; and

a color layer covering the reflective layer and the first aperture, but not the second aperture, in the reflective layer.

2. The color-filter substrate assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the light-transmitting substrate has a rugged portion on the surface thereof.

3. The color-filter substrate assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the light-shield layer includes a surface with a rugged portion.

4. The color-filter substrate assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the reflective layer comprises a rugged portion on the surface thereof.

5. A method for manufacturing a color-filter substrate assembly, comprising:

forming a light-shield layer with an aperture on a light-transmitting substrate that transmits light;

forming, on the light-shield layer, a reflective layer with first aperture aligned with the aperture of the light-shield layer and a second aperture that exposes the light-shield layer;

forming a color layer over the reflective layer and over the first aperture, but not the second aperture, of the reflective layer.

6. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising forming a rugged portion on the light-transmitting substrate.

7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein forming the light-shield layer includes forming a rugged portion on a surface of the light-shield layer.

8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein forming the reflective layer includes forming a rugged portion on a surface of the reflective layer.

9. The method according to claim 5 , wherein forming the light-shield layer includes forming the light-shield layer from a resin.

10. An electro-optical device comprising:

a pair of substrates including a light-transmitting substrate that transmits light;

a light-shield layer arranged on the light-transmitting substrate, the light-shield layer having an aperture;

a reflective layer arranged on the light-shield layer, the reflective layer having a first aperture that is aligned with the aperture of the light-shield layer and a second aperture that exposes the light-shield layer through the second aperture; and

a color layer covering the reflective layer and the first aperture, but not the second aperture, in the reflective layer.

11. The electro-optical device according to claim 10 , wherein the light-transmitting substrate includes a surface formed with a rugged portion corresponding to location of the reflective layer.

12. The electro-optical device according to claim 10 , wherein the light-shield layer includes a surface with a rugged portion.
