Abstract

This invention relates generally to the electrical treatment of malignant tumors and neoplasms by applying a voltage to affected tissue. Devices and various adaptations therein are described for use in electrical therapy. In one embodiment, electrical therapy output is modified to deliver a duty cycle less than 100 percent.

Claims (17)

1 . An apparatus comprising:

an implantable device housing; and

a battery contained within said device housing; and

circuitry contained within said device housing wherein said circuitry is coupled to said battery; and

at least one electrode operably coupled to said circuitry wherein said circuitry delivers electrical therapy at a duty cycle of less than 100 percent to said at least one electrode for the treatment of cancer.

2 . The device of claim 1 wherein said duty cycle of less than 100 percent is achieved by modifying pulse width.

3 . The device of claim 1 wherein said duty cycle of less than 100 percent is achieved by modifying frequency.

4 . The device of claim 1 wherein said duty cycle is in the range of 50 to 70 percent.

5 . An apparatus comprising:

an implantable device housing; and

a battery having a maximum output wherein said battery is contained within said device housing; and

circuitry contained within said device housing wherein said circuitry is coupled to said battery; and

at least one electrode operably coupled to said circuitry wherein said circuitry delivers electrical therapy at an output less than said battery maximum output for the treatment of cancer.

6 . The device of claim 5 wherein said electrical therapy at an output less than said battery maximum output is achieved by a duty cycle less than 100 percent.

7 . The device of claim 6 wherein said duty cycle of less than 100 percent is achieved by modifying pulse width.

8 . The device of claim 6 wherein said duty cycle of less than 100 percent is achieved by modifying frequency.

9 . The device of claim 6 wherein said duty cycle is in the range of 50 to 70 percent.
