Synergistic fluorochemical treatment blend
View Patent ↗Disclosed herein are fluorochemical blends suitable for producing repellency to low surface tension fluids such as, for example, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and hydrophilic liquids, such as those containing surfactants. The fluorochemical blends may be beneficially utilized to produce low surface tension fluid repellency in extruded articles such as fibers and fibrous web materials, films and foams. Such repellent extruded articles are highly useful in a wide range of limited use and disposable products such as, for example, personal care products, mortuary and veterinary products, protective wear garments, and medical care garments and products. The fluorochemical blends include at least a first fluorochemical having a majority of first fluoroaliphatic groups having 4 or fewer carbon atoms, and a second fluorochemical having a majority of second fluoroaliphatic groups having 6 or more carbon atoms.
1. A fluorochemical blend for imparting repellency, said fluorochemical blend comprising at least a first fluorochemical comprising a majority of first fluoroaliphatic groups having 4 or fewer carbon atoms and linked to said first fluorochemical by sulfonamide links, and a second fluorochemical comprising a majority of second fluoroaliphatic groups having 6 or more carbon atoms and linked to said second fluorochemical by alkyl links, wherein said fluorochemical blend constitutes greater than 10 percent by weight of said first fluorochemical.
2. The fluorochemical blend of claim 1 wherein said majority of said first fluoroaliphatic groups are perfluorinated 4 carbon groups.
3. The fluorochemical blend of claim 1 wherein said majority of said second fluoroaliphatic groups are perfluorinated 6 carbon groups.
4. The fluorochemical blend of claim 1 wherein said majority of said second fluoroaliphatic groups are perfluorinated 8 carbon groups.
5. The fluorochemical blend of claim 2 wherein said majority of said second fluoroaliphatic groups comprises a mixture of perfluorinated 6 carbon groups and perfluorinated 8 carbon groups.
6. The fluorochemical blend of claim 2 wherein said majority of said second fluoroaliphatic groups are perfluorinated 6 carbon groups.
7. The fluorochemical blend of claim 2 wherein said majority of said second fluoroaliphatic groups are perfluorinated 8 carbon groups.
8. The fluorochemical blend of claim 1 wherein said fluorochemical blend comprises greater than 20 percent by weight of said first fluorochemical.
9. The fluorochemical blend of claim 8 wherein said fluorochemical blend comprises greater than 40 percent by weight of said first fluorochemical.
10. The fluorochemical blend of claim 9 wherein said fluorochemical blend comprises greater than 60 percent by weight of said first fluorochemical.
11. The fluorochemical blend of claim 1 , wherein said alkyl links include ethylene links.
