Abstract

An extension arm suitable for mounting an electronic device. The extension arm also includes a pair of end caps. The extension arm also includes an upper channel and a lower channel. Each channel has at opposite ends a pair of integrally cast rollers which are pivotably attached to each of the end caps. The upper channel includes an integrally formed boss for securing a ball stud. A tensioning assembly is contained within the extension arm having one end coupled to the ball stud and the other end coupled to one of the end caps. The upper and lower channels and the end caps form an adjustable parallelogram.

Claims (19)

1. A channel for use in an extension arm that adjustably mounts a device to a support, said channel comprising an elongated body having a bottom wall; a first roller disposed at a first end of said body; a second roller disposed at a second end of said body, said first and second rollers integrally formed with said body; a boss integrally formed with said bottom wall adjacent a first end of said body, said boss having a bore therein; and a ball stud received within said bore, wherein said bore extends partially through said boss.

2. The channel of claim 1 , wherein said boss is cylindrical.

3. The channel of claim 1 , wherein one end of said bore is a blind end.

4. The channel of claim 1 , further including a tensioning assembly within said body having one end coupled to said ball stud.

5. A channel for use in an extension arm that adjustably mounts a device to a support, said channel comprising a U-shaped body including a pair of spaced apart side walls and a bottom wall; a first roller disposed at a first end of said bottom wall; a second roller disposed at a second end of said bottom wall; said first and second rollers integrally formed with said body; and a boss integrally formed with said bottom wall extending upwards between said side walls, said boss having a threaded bore at one end thereof adapted to receive a ball stud, the other end of said bore being a blind end.

6. The channel of claim 5 , wherein said boss is cylindrical.

7. The channel of claim 5 , further including a ball stud received within said bore.

8. The channel of claim 7 , further including a tensioning assembly within said body having one end coupled to said ball stud.

9. A channel assembly for use in an extension arm adapted for mounting an electronic device to a support, said assembly comprising an upper channel including a bottom wall and having a first roller at a first end and a second roller at a second end, said first roller configured to be pivotably attached to a first end cap and said second roller configured to be pivotably attached to a second end cap, said first and second rollers integrally formed with said upper channel; and a lower channel including a bottom wall having a third roller at a first end and a fourth roller at a second end, said third roller configured to be pivotably attached to the first end cap and said fourth roller configured to be pivotably attached to the second end cap, said third and fourth rollers integrally formed with said lower channel, wherein said upper channel includes a boss integrally formed with said bottom wall thereof adjacent one of said ends, said boss having a bore adapted to receive a ball stud, and wherein said bore extends partially through said boss.

10. The channel of claim 9 , wherein said boss is formed within said upper channel.

11. The channel of claim 9 , wherein one end of said bore is a blind end.

12. The assembly of claim 9 , wherein said lower channel is nested within said upper channel.

13. The channel of claim 12 , further including a ball stud received within said bore.

14. The channel of claim 13 , further including a tensioning assembly between the nested upper and lower channels having one end coupled to said ball stud.

15. A channel assembly for use in an extension arm adapted for mounting an electronic device to a support, said assembly comprising a first end cap adapted for pivotable attachment to the support; a second end cap; an upper channel including a bottom wall having a first roller at a first end and a second roller at a second end, wherein said rollers are integrally cast with said upper channel, said first roller pivotably attached to said first end cap and said second roller pivotably attached to said second end cap; and a lower channel including a bottom wall and having a third roller at a first end and a fourth roller at a second end, wherein said rollers are integrally cast with said lower channel, said third roller pivotably attached to said first end cap and said fourth roller pivotably attached to said second end cap, wherein said upper channel includes a boss integrally formed with said bottom wall thereof adjacent one of said ends, said boss having a threaded bore at one end thereof adapted to receive a ball stud, the other end of said bore being a blind end.

16. The channel of claim 15 , wherein said boss is cylindrical.

17. The assembly of claim 15 , wherein said lower channel is nested within said upper channel.

18. The channel of claim 17 , further including a ball stud received within said bore.

19. The channel of claim 18 , further including a tensioning assembly between the nested upper and lower channels having one end coupled to said ball stud and the other end coupled to said first end cap.
