Abstract

A banquet cart including a cabinet, a plurality of chimneys, an information center, and releasably lockable swivel casters. The plurality of chimneys are positioned inside the cabinet at different corners of the cabinet. The information center includes at least two of (a) a thermometer display indicating the temperature inside of the cabinet; (b) a display indicating time information from a programmable timer; and (c) an information board for displaying text. The releasably locking swivel casters are unlocked to allow swivel action of the casters when a user actuates a foot-operable lever at the front of the cabinet, and are locked when the user releases the lever and the casters are rotated to a predetermined position.

Claims (15)

1. A banquet cart, which may incorporate a heat source for generating heated air, said cart comprising:

a cabinet for storing food items, the cabinet having a substantially rectangular footprint; and

at least one chimney positioned inside the cabinet at a corner of the cabinet, as defined by the substantially rectangular footprint, said chimney having a chimney entrance formed to receive heated air conducted from the heat source, when the heat source is incorporated in said cart.

2. The banquet cart according to claim 1 , further comprising a heat shield for conducting heated air from the heat source to said chimney entrance, when the heat source is incorporated in said cart.

3. The banquet cart according to claim 2 , wherein the heat shield is removably mounted inside of said cabinet.

The banquet cart according to claim 2 , wherein the cabinet further comprises a drawer movable between an open position and a closed position, in the open position said drawer providing access to receive fuel for the heat source, and in the closed position said drawer being located to position the fuel below said heat shield.

5. The banquet cart according to claim 1 , comprising four chimneys, each said chimney being positioned at a different corner of the cabinet, as defined by the substantially rectangular footprint.

6. The banquet cart according to claim 1 , wherein said chimney has a substantially triangular cross-sectional shape.

7. The banquet cart according to claim 1 , wherein said chimney comprises a wall exposed in the interior of said cabinet to conduct heat therethrough.

8. The banquet cart according to claim 7 , wherein said chimney comprises an external wall and said cart further comprises thermal insulation for said external wall of said chimney.

9. The banquet cart according to claim 8 , wherein said external wall of said chimney is also an external wall of said cabinet.

10. The banquet cart according to claim 1 , wherein said chimney has two externally positioned walls which form a substantial right angle at their intersection, and one internally positioned wall.

11. A banquet cart according to claim 10 , wherein the internal wall has a width of about 3.75 to about 4.25 inches.

12. A banquet cart according to claim 1 , wherein said chimney comprises a plate extending vertically to span a distance between adjacent walls at a corner of said cabinet, and wherein said plate is formed with at least opening to permit heated air to pass therethrough.

13. A banquet cart according to claim 1 , wherein said chimney comprises a modular unit mountable in a corner of said cabinet.
