Self-etching dental compositions and methods
View Patent ↗The present invention is directed to dental compositions that can be used as adhesives for bonding a dental material to a dental structure surface and/or as a dental restorative material. The dental composition is preferably applied to a dental structure surface under conditions effective to etch the dental structure surface.
1. An adhesive composition comprising a non-aqueous dental adhesive and a polymerizable nonionic surfactant, wherein the adhesive composition is self-etching, non-aqueous, and substantially free of organic solvents.
2. An adhesive composition comprising a non-aqueous dental adhesive and a polymerizable nonionic surfactant, wherein the non-aqueous dental adhesive comprises an ethylenically unsaturated compound with acid functionality, an ethylenically unsaturated compound without acid functionality, and an initiator system, and wherein the adhesive composition is self-etching and non-aqueous.
3. The adhesive composition of claim 2 wherein the non-aqueous dental adhesive further comprises a filler.
4. The adhesive composition of claim 2 wherein the acid functionality comprises carboxylic acid functionality, phosphoric acid functionality, phosphonic acid functionality, sulfonic acid functionality, or combinations thereof.
5. The adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein the nonionic surfactant is an ethoxylated alkyl phenol comprising a polymerizable group.
6. The adhesive composition of claim 5 wherein the ethoxylated alkyl phenol has greater than 20 oxyethylene groups.
7. The adhesive composition of claim 2 wherein the nonionic surfactant is an ethoxylated alkyl phenol comprising a polymerizable group.
8. The adhesive composition of claim 7 wherein the ethoxylated alkyl phenol has greater than 20 oxyethylene groups.
