Abstract

A method of fabricating a thin film magnetic recording head including a perpendicular recording head having an auxiliary pole, a main pole and a shield against an external magnetic field. The shield against the external magnetic field is formed so that an edge of the shield against the external magnetic field is disposed at a position recessed at least from an edge of the main pole relative to a surface against a medium.

Claims (10)

1. A method of fabricating a thin film magnetic recording head including a perpendicular recording head having an auxiliary pole, a main pole and a shield against an external magnetic field, comprising the step of forming the shield against the external magnetic field so that an edge of the shield against the external magnetic field is disposed at a position recessed at least from a plane of an air bearing surface of the magnetic recording head at which an edge of the main pole which faces a recording medium is arranged with respect to a surface of the recording medium.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the shield against the external magnetic field is formed by using an electroplating method with resist frame.

3. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the perpendicular recording head is a single type recording head.

4. A method of fabricating a magnetic recording head comprising the steps of:

providing a reproducing head;

forming a main pole above the reproducing head; and

forming a shield against the external magnetic field above the main pole;

wherein an edge of the shield against the external magnetic field is disposed at a position recessed at least from a plane of an air bearing surface of the magnetic recording head at which an edge of the main pole which faces a recording medium is arranged with respect to a surface of the recording medium.

5. A method of fabricating a magnetic recording head according to claim 4 , further comprising a step of forming an auxiliary pole between the reproducing head and the main pole.

6. A method of fabricating a magnetic recording head according to claim 4 , wherein a size of the shield against the external magnetic field is larger than a size of the main pole.
