Abstract

A method, apparatus, and computer readable storage medium for implementing a bonus round of a slot machine game. A plurality of concealed elements are displayed, and a player can reveal each element one by one, until a terminating symbol is revealed. Combinations are formed and a player is awarded a highest combination upon revealing a terminating symbol.

Claims (32)

1. A method of playing a wagering game on a gaming machine including at least an input device, an electronic output device, and a computing device, the method comprising:

receiving a wager from a player on the gaming machine;

allowing a player to continuously reveal concealed elements, via the input device on the electronic output device associated with the gaming machine, to create revealed elements until a terminating condition occurs, the terminating condition being dependent upon at least one revealed element;

the computing device determining particular elements out of the revealed elements which combine to create a best combination with a highest payout to the player using a paytable, the particular number of elements being a predetermined number; and

after the terminating condition occurs, the computing device awarding the player only the highest payout out of all possible combinations using the particular number of revealed elements;

wherein the number of revealed elements is not predetermined but is variable based on when the terminating condition occurs;

wherein the particular number is predetermined before the game begins;

wherein during the game the number of revealed elements becomes greater than seven if the terminating condition does not occur beforehand; and

wherein during the allowing, before all elements forming the best combination are revealed, an intermediate combination is identified by the computing device to the player if one exists, the intermediate combination forming a highest payout using the particular number of revealed elements at that time.

2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the revealed elements are cards.

3. The method as recited in claim 2 , wherein the paytable assigns awards for a plurality of poker ranks.

4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the terminating condition is when the best combination is a highest paying combination on the paytable.

5. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the elements are slot machine symbols.

6. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the number of particular elements is 5.

7. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the terminating condition is when a last revealed element comprises a termination card.

8. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein after a concealed element is revealed, automatically identifying to the player the best combination.

9. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the intermediate combination is identified by, electronically maintaining an array of cards left in the deck, and adding each revealed card to the array, and computing all possible winning hands from the array and using a highest ranking winning hand therefrom.

10. A gaming apparatus to play a wagering game comprising at least an input device, an electronic output device, and a computing device configured to perform:

receiving a wager from a player on the gaming machine;

allowing a player to continuously reveal concealed elements displayed on the electronic output device via the input device to create revealed elements until a terminating condition occurs, the terminating condition being dependent upon at least one revealed element;

determining particular elements out of the revealed elements which combine to create a best combination with a highest payout to the player using a paytable, the particular number of elements being a predetermined number; and

after the terminating condition occurs, awarding the player only the highest payout out of all possible combinations using the particular number of revealed elements;

wherein the number of revealed elements is not predetermined but is variable based on when the terminating condition occurs;

wherein the particular number is predetermined before the game begins; and

wherein during the game the number of revealed elements becomes greater than seven if the terminating condition does not occur beforehand.

11. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein the revealed elements are cards.

12. The apparatus as recited in claim 11 wherein the paytable assigns awards for a plurality of poker ranks.

13. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein the terminating condition is when the best combination is a highest paying combination on the paytable.

14. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein the elements are slot machine symbols.

15. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein the number of particular elements is 5.

16. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein the terminating condition is when a last revealed element comprises a termination card.

17. The apparatus as recited in claim 10 , wherein after a concealed element is revealed, automatically identifying to the player the best combination.
