Abstract

A communication system includes a development sector for registering a plurality of wireless devices, a business sector for controlling utilization of an application program and for receiving application data, a service sector for deploying the application program and for providing the application data to the business sector in accordance with communication with at least one wireless device of the plurality; and a mobile sector comprising the plurality of wireless devices, each device for receiving the application program deployed by the service sector, executing the application program in response to the business sector, and communicating with the service sector to support provision of the application data to the business sector. The wireless device, such as a cell phone, personal digital assistant, or palm top computer may include an auxiliary device such as a bar code scanner, a magnetic stripe card reader, or a printer.

Claims (19)

1. A method for deploying a distributed process application program, the method comprising:

determining a first component of the distributed process application program to be performed by a wireless device;

determining a plurality of publication parameters for publishing the first component to a plurality of wireless devices;

publishing, in accordance with the publication parameters, the first component to the plurality of wireless devices;

rendering available for use the first component in each of the plurality of wireless devices;

receiving an acknowledgement of receipt of the first component from each of the plurality of wireless devices; and

providing a notice of completed publication of the first component.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein each wireless device has a type, and publishing comprises: determining at least one type of wireless device of the plurality of wireless devices; obtaining a compiled version of the first component for execution in accordance with the determined type; and providing the compiled version of the first component to each wireless device having the determined type.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein rendering comprises directing the wireless device to permit execution of the first component after passage of a time of day.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein rendering comprises directing the wireless device to permit execution of the first component after receipt of a message.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising: receiving from a provided browser publication parameters; and directing publication in accordance with the publication parameters.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising: determining a second component of the distributed processing application program; and publishing the second component to at least one application server, the application server, in accordance with the second component, communicating with at least one wireless device of the plurality.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising rendering available for use the second component.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein rendering the second component available for use by all application servers precedes rendering any first component available for use by any wireless device.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising registering a plurality of wireless devices, each registered device comprising an application engine for performing the first component.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein registering a particular wireless device comprises downloading the application engine into the particular wireless device.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein registering a particular wireless device comprises installing into the particular wireless device a memory comprising the application engine.

12. The method of claim 1 further comprising registering a plurality of wireless devices, each registered device comprising an application engine for performing the first component and an auxiliary device.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the auxiliary device comprises memory for storing the first component.
