Uridine administration improves phosphatide synthesis, synaptic transmission and cognitive function
View Patent ↗The present invention provides methods of improving a cognitive function or a neurological function, treating or ameliorating a decline in a cognitive function or a neurological function, increasing cytidine levels, or treating a neurological disorder in a subject, comprising administering a uridine, a uridine precursor, or a derivative or metabolite thereof to the subject. The invention also provides methods of improving neural function, comprising contacting the neuron with a uridine, a uridine precursor, or a derivative or metabolite thereof.
1. A method of increasing the level of cytidine, cytidine triphosphate, or CDP-choline in a tissue or plasma of a subject in need thereof, comprising administering between about 20 mg and about 0.75 g per day of uridine, an N-oxide thereof, a uridine phosphate; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to said subject.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said tissue is a brain tissue or a neural tissue.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said uridine phosphate is a uridine-5′-monophosphate.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein said uridine-5′-monophosphate is present as the pharmaceutically acceptable salt uridine-5′-monophosphate disodium.
