Patent
The present invention provides isolated metal regulated polypeptides obtainable from a Campylobacter spp., and compositions including the polypeptides. The present invention also includes methods for using the compositions disclosed herein, including methods for treating in infection in a subject, for treating a condition caused by a Campylobacter spp., and for decreasing colonization of an animal.
1. A method of administering to an animal colonized by or at risk of being colonized by Campylobacter jejuni , an amount of a composition comprising isolated iron-regulated polypeptides obtainable from Campylobacter jejuni when incubated in a culture medium comprising an iron chelator and not obtainable when grown in the culture medium without the iron chelator, wherein the amount is an amount effective to decrease colonization of the intestinal tract of the animal by Campylobacter jejuni , and wherein the isolated iron-regulated polypeptides have molecular weights of between 150 kDa and 152 kDa, between 143 kDa and 145 kDa, between 123 kDa and 125 kDa, between 88 kDa and 90 kDa, between 73 kDa and 75 kDa, between 69 kDa and 71 kDa, between 51 kDa and 53 kDa, between 50 kDa and 52 kDa, and between 38 kDa and 40 kDa as determined by 10% SDS-PAGE.
2. A method of reducing fecal shedding of Campylobacter jejuni in an animal colonized by Campylobacter jejuni comprising administering to the animal an amount of a composition comprising isolated iron-regulated polypeptides obtainable from the Campylobacter jejuni when incubated in a culture medium comprising an iron chelator and not obtainable when grown in the culture medium without the iron chelator, wherein the amount is an amount effective to reduce the fecal shedding and wherein the isolated iron-regulated polypeptides have molecular weights of between 150 kDa and 152 kDa, between 143 kDa and 145 kDa, between 123 kDa and 125 kDa, between 88 kDa and 90 kDa, between 73 kDa and 75 kDa, between 69 kDa and 71 kDa, between 51 kDa and 53 kDa, between 50 kDa and 52 kDa, and between 38 kDa and 40 kDa as determined by 10% SDS-PAGE.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the animal is a mammal or a bird.
4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the animal is a mammal or a bird.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the Campylobacter jejuni is C. jejuni ATCC strain PTA-6215.
6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the Campylobacter jejuni is C. jejuni ATCC strain PTA-6215.
