Multi-functional oxidizing composition
View Patent ↗A composition comprising a stable anhydrous mixture of an oxidizing agent and an active halogen agent wherein the oxidizing agent is potassium hydrogen peroxymonosulfate and the active halogen agent is an alkali metal salt of dichloro-s-triazinetrione, halogenated dimethylhydantoin, or mixtures thereof, and a method of treating water with such compositions are disclosed.
1. A composition consisting of a free flowing granular anhydrous mixture of an oxidizing agent; an active halogen agent for treating recirculating water systems, which is stable for at least one month a pH buffer and a clarifying agent; wherein the oxidizing agent is the triple salt 2KHSO 5 .KHSO 4 .K 2 SO 4 and the active halogen agent is anhydrous sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione, and wherein the weight ratio of oxidizing agent to active halogen agent is from about 99:1 to about 70:30, and wherein a solution of said mixture in water has a pH of about 6.8 to about 7.9.
2. A method of treating water comprising contacting the water with the composition of claim.
3. A method to inhibit algae growth in water comprising contacting the water with the composition of claim 1 wherein the oxidizing agent is potassium monopersulfate and the active halogen agent is an alkali metal salt of dichloro-s-triazinetrione, halogenated dimethylhydantoin or mixtures thereof.
4. A method of sanitizing water comprising contacting the water with the composition of claim 1 wherein the oxidizing agent is potassium monopersulfate and the active halogen agent is an alkali metal salt of dichloro-s-triazinetrione, halogenated dimethylhydantoin or mixtures thereof.
5. The method of claim 2 or 3 wherein the water is a recreational, ornamental, or industrial water system.
6. The method of claim 2 or 3 wherein the treating comprises oxidizing and halogenating.
