Print media air drying inkjet printer
View Patent ↗An inkjet printer includes an air duct arranged to deliver air to the printer's print media transport assembly in order to warm-set dry print media before its exit from the printer. To facilitate circulation of the air the transport assembly includes foraminous conveyor belts which are sufficiently long to allow for approximately 1 second of drying time at the printer's operational speed.
1. An inkjet printer including:
a housing;
an elongate print media transport assembly mounted in the housing;
a pagewidth printhead mounted in the housing so as to be located at a print media entry side of the print media transport assembly;
an air duct mounted in the housing so as to be arranged to deliver air to said transport assembly in order to dry print media in use; and
vents located in a side wall of the housing for the exit of air.
2. An inkjet printer according to claim 1 , wherein the air duct communicates with an air inlet mounted to the housing.
3. An inkjet printer according to claim 1 , wherein the elongate print media transport assembly comprises one or more conveyor belts.
4. An inkjet printer according to claim 3 , wherein the one or more conveyor belts are foraminous to allow the passage of air from the air duct.
5. An inkjet printer according to claim 4 , wherein the one or more conveyor belts comprise a pair of opposed foraminous conveyor belts.
6. An inkjet printer according to claim 3 , including a motor and gearing arrangement to drive the conveyor belts at a predetermined speed.
