Abstract

A valve for a pressurized container is described. The valve housing has a central bore, a port in said housing to facilitate connection of a nozzle thereto, and a t-stem having a lower end with an opening. A two part poppit is positioned in the t-stem for sealing the valve. The has an elastomeric valve seat portion and a support portion for the valve seat. The support portion includes a shaft that is received in an opening of the lower end of the t-stem.

Claims (26)

1 . A valve for a pressurized container, the valve comprising:

a valve housing having a central bore;

a port in said housing to facilitate connection of a nozzle thereto;

a t-stem having a lower end with an opening; and

a two part poppit;

wherein the poppit comprises an elastomeric valve seat portion and a support portion for the valve seat, the support portion having a shaft that is received in the opening of the lower end of the t-stem.

2 . The valve of claim 1 , wherein the valve seat comprises an elastomeric material, which can be a natural or synthetic rubber.

3 . The valve of claim 2 , wherein the elastomeric material has a hardness in the range of about 50 to about 90 Shore A.

4 . The valve of claim 2 , wherein the elastomeric material comprises a styrene butadiene block copolymer.

5 . The valve of claim 4 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polybutadiene.

6 . The valve of claim 4 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polyisoprene.

7 . The valve of claim 4 , wherein the elastomeric material further comprises polypropylene.

8 . A two-part poppit for use in a valve for a pressurized container, the poppit comprising an elastomeric valve seat portion and a support portion for the valve seat, the support portion having a shaft that is received in the opening of the lower end of the t-stem.

9 . The two-part poppit of claim 8 , wherein the valve seat comprises an elastomeric material, which can be a natural or synthetic rubber.

10 . The two-part poppit of claim 9 , wherein the elastomeric material has a hardness in the range of about 50 to about 90 Shore A.

11 . The two-part poppit of claim 9 , wherein the elastomeric material comprises a styrene butadiene block copolymer.

12 . The two-part poppit of claim 11 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polybutadiene.

13 . The two-part poppit of claim 11 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polyisoprene.

14 . The two-part poppit of claim 9 , wherein the elastomeric material further comprises polypropylene.

15 . A pressurized container comprising a valve, the valve comprising: a valve housing having a central bore; a port in said housing to facilitate connection of a nozzle thereto; a t-stem having a lower end with an opening; and a two part poppit; wherein the poppit comprises an elastomeric valve seat portion and a support portion for the valve seat, the support portion having a shaft that is received in the opening of the lower end of the t-stem.

16 . The pressurized container of claim 15 , wherein the valve seat comprises an elastomeric material, which can be a natural or synthetic rubber.

17 . The pressurized container of claim 16 , wherein the elastomeric material has a hardness in the range of about 50 to about 90 Shore A.

18 . The pressurized container of claim 16 , wherein the elastomeric material comprises a styrene butadiene block copolymer.

19 . The pressurized container of claim 18 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polybutadiene.

20 . The pressurized container of claim 18 , wherein the styrene butadiene block copolymer comprises hydrogenated polyisoprene.

21 . The pressurized container of claim 18 , wherein the elastomeric material further comprises polypropylene.
