Abstract

A novel gene 158P3D2 and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 158P3D2 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, 158P3D2 provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 158P3D2 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 158P3D2 can be used in active or passive immunization.

Claims (6)

1. A method of generating an immune response in a mammal directed to a protein, comprising:

exposing a cell of the mammal's immune system to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:6275, wherein S58R, K281N, or T282A, whereby an immune response is generated to said protein.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cell exposed to the amino acid sequence is a T cell or B cell, whereby the T cell or B cell is activated.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the immune system cell is a B cell, whereby the activated B cell generates antibodies that specifically bind to the protein.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the immune system cell is a T cell that is a cytotoxic T cell (CTL), whereby the activated CTL kills an autologous cell that expresses the protein.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein the immune system cell is a T cell that is a helper T cell (HTL), whereby the activated HTL secretes cytokines that facilitate the cytotoxic activity of a cytotoxic T cell (CTL) or the antibody-producing activity of a B cell.
