Abstract

The present invention relates to automatic transmissions and gear trains. In particular, the instant invention relates to an automatic transmission gear train with improved resistance to deterioration with an increased effective life. The gear train of the instant invention comprises eight pinion gears assembled into one carrier utilizing a forward and a rear sun gear, a ring gear, a band drum and a one way roller clutch.

Claims (15)

1 . A planetary gear train with reduced spalling, reduced noise, and improved durability.

2 . The planetary gear train of claim 1 , wherein the gear train comprises 4 compound pinion gears.

3 . The gear train of claim 1 , wherein the gear train comprises eight pinion gears.

4 . The gear train of claim 1 , wherein the gear train comprises four compound gears and four single gears.

5 . A planetary gear train comprising eight pinion gears, a carrier utilizing a front sun gear, rear sun gear, a ring gear, and a one way roller clutch.

6 . The planetary gear train of claim 5 , wherein 4 of the pinion gears are compound.

7 . The planetary gear train of claim 6 , wherein the compound pinion gears comprise 20 teeth.

8 . The planetary gear train of claim 7 , wherein the compound pinion gears have a module of 1.5.

9 . The planetary gear train of claim 8 , wherein the compound pinion gears have a helix angle of approximately 18.

10 . The planetary gear train of claim 5 , wherein the front sun gear comprises 26 teeth.

11 . The planetary gear train of claim 10 , wherein the front sun gear has a module of 1.5.

12 . The planetary gear train of claim 11 , wherein the front sun gear has a helix angle of approximately 18.

13 . The planetary gear train of claim 5 , wherein the rear sun gear comprises 34 teeth.

14 . The planetary gear train of claim 13 , wherein the rear sun gear has a module of 1.5.

15 . The planetary gear train of claim 14 , wherein the rear sun gear has a helix angle of approximately 18.
