Abstract

Communication between a micromechanical printhead interface and a printer processor involves the exchange of numerous operational parameters. A register is provided to allow the processor to parameterize a print as well as received print progress feedback from the printhead interface. Printhead feedback parameters that are stored in the register include: printhead nozzle temperature; actuator voltage; actuator heater resistivity; and actuator heater width.

Claims (11)

1. A printer including:

a data register to store printer operation parameters;

a processor in communication with the data register;

a memory device storing operational instructions for execution by the processor;

a micromechanical inkjet printhead in communication with the processor and with the data register; and

a printhead interface circuit facilitating communication between the data register and the micromechanical inkjet printhead, the data register being arranged to store one or more data feedback values from the printhead interface indicating one or more of the following: printhead nozzle temperature; actuator voltage; actuator heater resistance, actuator heater width, the operational instructions including instructions for the processor to adjust operation of the printhead on the basis of the one or more data feedback values.

2. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the data register is arranged to store data indicating the printhead interface's status.

3. A printer according to claim 2 , wherein the operational instructions include instructions for the processor to determine the printhead interface's status from the data register.

4. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the data register is integrated with the processor.

5. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the operational instructions include instructions for the processor to write print parameter data to the data registers to modify print head operation.

6. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the print parameter data includes one or more of: data indicating a number of transfers required to load the printhead; data indicating low or high speed printing; data indicating a number of load or print cycles to be performed.
