Abstract

A method of manipulating print data in a printer capable of simultaneously printing on both surfaces of a sheet of print media, the method including the steps of: receiving first data relating to a first page to be printed in a first memory; transferring the first data from the first memory to a second memory; receiving second data relating to a second page to be printed in the first memory; and simultaneously accessing the first and second data to simultaneously print the first and second pages on both surfaces of the print media.

Claims (15)

1. A method of manipulating print data in a printer capable of simultaneously printing on both surfaces of a sheet of print media, the method including the steps of:

receiving first data relating to a first page to be printed in a first memory;

transferring the first data from the first memory to a second memory;

receiving second data relating to a second page to be printed in the first memory; and

simultaneously accessing the first and second data to simultaneously print the first and second pages on both surfaces of the print media.

2. The method of claim 1 including receiving and transferring the first data under the control of a first controller.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein printing of said second data is controlled by the first controller.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein printing of said first data is controlled by a second controller.

5. The method of claim 1 in which printhead interfaces for both sides of the media are synchronized, said method including generated a synchronization signal and transmitting said synchronization signal to said printhead interfaces.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said synchronization signal is generated by the first controller.

7. The method of claim 2 which includes transmitting data relating to all pages to be printed to the first memory, and determining, in the first controller, what data, if any, is to be routed to the second memory.

8. The method of claim 1 that includes transferring said first data to the second memory after receiving it in its entirety in said first memory.

9. The method of claim 2 that includes selecting the first controller to print the rear surface of the print media.

10. The method of claim 2 wherein printing of said first data is controlled by a second controller and includes, periodically, transmitting predetermined data from the second controller to the first controller.

11. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of receiving the second data in the first memory occurs before receiving the first data.
