Printer with coordinated print data buffers
A printer includes a print controller that operates in accordance with a software product stored in a memory device of the printer. The software product includes instructions for the print controller to store a first page of print data in a first data buffer while printing a page according to a second page of print data pre-stored in a second data buffer. In one embodiment the software product includes instructions to decompress edge-runlength encoded print data.
1 . A printer having a print controller operative in accordance with a software product stored in a memory device of the printer, including:
first and second data buffers; and
instructions in the software product to store a first page of print data from a remote computational device in the first data buffer while printing a page according to a page of print data stored in the second data buffer.
2 . A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the software product includes instructions to decompress EDRL encoded print data contained within print data received from the remote computational device.
3 . A printer according to claim 2 , wherein the software product includes instructions to decompress contone data contained within the print data received from the remote computational device.
4 . A printer according to claim 3 , wherein the software product includes instructions to decompress contone data presented in a JPEG format.
5 . A printer according to claim 4 , wherein the software product includes instructions to composite data corresponding to the EDRL encoded print data over the contone data prior to printing.
6 . A printer according to claim 1 including a universal serial bus (USB) port to connect to the remote computational device.
7 . A printer according to claim 1 , including a pagewidth drop-on-demand microelectromechanical inkjet printhead.
