Abstract

The system and method of the present invention comprises a compressed domain conference bridge. The method includes maintaining full intelligibility for all users even when there are multiple simultaneous talkers. The bridge also allows a user to hear a plurality of talkers over a single channel.

Claims (36)

1. A method of compressed domain signal bridging of parametric data representing at least one bit stream, comprising:

pre-setting a priority for each of a plurality of users;

determining which of said parametric data reflects voice signal information; and

selectively providing at least some of said parametric data reflecting voice information dependently upon said pre-set priorities.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said selectively providing comprises:

selectively providing at a first rate when only one input bit stream includes voice information; and

selectively providing at a second rate when more than one input bit stream includes voice information.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein said first rate is greater than said second rate.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said selectively providing further comprises:

converting at least one bit stream into frames of parametric data based on a corresponding algorithm;

receiving a plurality of frames of said parametric data; and

converting said frames for compatibility with a desired algorithm.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said selectively providing at least some of said parametric data reflecting voice information is also dependent upon which of said users are speaking.

6. A device for compressed domain signal bridging parametric data representing at least one bit stream, comprising:

pre-set priorities each corresponding to a user;

means for determining which of said parametric data reflects voice signal information; and

means for selectively providing at least some of said parametric data reflecting voice information dependently upon said pre-set priorities.

7. The device according to claim 6 , wherein said means for selectively providing comprises:

means for selectively providing at a first rate when only one input bit stream includes voice information; and

means for selectively providing at a second rate when more than one input bit stream includes voice information.

8. The device according to claim 7 , wherein said first rate is greater than said second rate.

9. The device according to claim 6 , wherein said means for selectively providing further comprises:

means for converting at least one bit stream into frames of parametric data based on a corresponding algorithm;

means for receiving a plurality of frames of said parametric data; and

means for converting said frames for compatibility with a desired algorithm.

10. A device for compressed domain signal bridging of parametric data representing at least one bit stream, comprising: pre-set priorities each corresponding to a user;

a detection circuit operatively connected to determine which of said parametric data reflects voice signal information; and

a filtering circuit operatively connected to selectively provide at least some of said parametric data reflecting voice information dependently upon said pre-set priorities.

11. The device according to claim 10 , wherein said filtering circuit comprises:

a first driving circuit operatively connected to selectively provide at a first rate when only one input bit stream includes voice information; and

a second driving circuit operatively connected to selectively provide at a second rate when more than one input bit stream includes voice data.

12. The device according to claim 11 , wherein said first rate is greater than said second rate.

13. The device according to claim 10 , wherein said filtering circuit further comprises:

a conversion circuit for converting at least one bit stream into frames of parametric data based on a corresponding algorithm;

a receiving circuit operatively connected to receive a plurality of frames of said parametric data; and

a conversion circuit operatively connected to convert said frames for compatibility with a desired algorithm.
