Abstract

A cellular covering for a roll-up type shade assembly is described. According to one embodiment, the covering typically comprises a plurality of cells vertically disposed on a backing sheet. Each cell is configured to self-inflate when unrolled from a roller of the shade assembly.

Claims (8)

1. A covering for a window, the covering comprising a roller, and a plurality of longitudinally-extending interconnected fabric cells, the cells being vertically spaced from each other and separated by an intervening vertically-extending spacing section, each cell having a rear portion, a top wall forming an acute angle with the rear portion, a front wall substantially parallel with the rear portion, and a bottom wall forming an obtuse angle with the rear portion, said spacing sections each comprising extensions of the rear portion of each cell, each cell and extension thereof formed from a separate strip of material, and wherein the cells are adapted to collapse when wound onto the roller and expand when the covering is unwound from the roller.

2. The covering of claim 1 wherein the rear portions of the plurality of cells are substantially coplanar with the spacing sections.

3. The covering of claim 1 wherein the rear portion of the plurality of cells and the spacing sections comprise a single sheet of fabric.

4. The covering of claim 1 wherein each cell comprises a plurality of folds, at least one fold of the plurality of folds causes fabric adjacent to the fold to fold over onto itself as the cell is rolled onto the roller.

5. The covering of claim 4 , wherein the at least one fold comprises two folds.

6. The covering of claim 1 wherein said spacing section of each cell extends downwardly from the bottom portion of the cell.

7. The covering of claim 1 wherein a rear portion of each cell is an extension of its bottom wall and extends upwardly from its bottom wall.

8. The covering of claim 7 wherein the spacing section of each cell extends upwardly from the rear portion of the cell.
