Abstract

A master carrier for magnetic transfer is equipped with a substrate having a land/groove pattern. The land/groove pattern is formed from a magnetic material and corresponds to information that is transferred to a magnetic recording disk. Each land in the land/groove pattern has four round corners whose radius is from 1% through 47% of the width of a data track on the disk.

Claims (14)

1. A master carrier for magnetic transfer, comprising:

a substrate with a land/groove pattern; and

a soft magnetic layer formed on said land/groove pattern; wherein the ratio (E 1 /E 2 ) of a Young's modulus (E 1 ) for said substrate to a Young's modulus (E 2 ) for said soft magnetic layer is in the range of 0.3 <(E 1 /E 2 ) <1.3.

2. A master carrier for magnetic transfer, comprising:

a substrate with a land/groove pattern comprising lands and grooves; and

a patterned magnetic layer, formed on said substrate, for transferring information to a slave medium to which transfer is performed;

wherein said patterned magnetic layer comprises a magnetic land layer provided on each land of said substrate, a magnetic groove layer provided in each groove of said substrate, and a reinforcement portion provided between said magnetic land layer and said magnetic groove layer, and

wherein the reinforcement portion is an extended portion of the substrate which is disposed at an outer circumferential edge portion of the magnetic land layer.

3. The master carrier for magnetic transfer of claim 2 , wherein the reinforcement portion provides an area of separation between the magnetic land layer and the magnetic groove layer.

4. The master carrier for magnetic transfer of claim 2 , wherein the reinforcement portion is operable to contact the slave medium during magnetic transfer to the slave medium.

5. A master carrier for magnetic transfer, comprising:

a substrate with a land pattern, comprising a plurality of lands that have a magnetic layer on a surface of each land, and formed for transferring information to a magnetic layer of a magnetic recording medium;

wherein a correction based on a demagnetizing field is made on said land pattern so that a desired magnetization pattern is transferred to the magnetic layer of said magnetic recording medium, such that said land pattern is not dimensionally 1:1 with respect to the magnetization pattern that is transferred.

6. The master carrier of claim 5 , wherein said correction changes a space between adjacent ones of said lands.
